Hi, LangdonStevenson.
I had some J3 Bedford truck wheel cylinders resleeved with stainless steel inserts some years ago - was about 1/2 the price of replacement cylinders and took them back to standard.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Deas, thank you, that's great to hear! I'll definitely look into that.

Trainzkid88 - It would definitely make sense to use off the shelf parts for things like brake cylinders - why re-invent the wheel so to speak?
I'll have a look and see if I can find national stock numbers for them. Fingers crossed I can bring that $2k down a bit!

so they were used on navistar, white and diamond reo trucks. i thought they might be bendix or wabco sourced originally.
bendix corp made everything from the spring loaded starter motor drive to carburettors to aircraft landing legs to brake systems which they are still known for today. they started in the aviation industry.
wabco Westinghouse air brake co started with train brakes and the Westinghouse air control spring operated system is still used today it's what pretty much all heavy vehicles have.

Short update on this project. I finally have the purchase for this machine sorted (had some medical expenses to sort out over the last few months that delayed things). I've contacted the haulage contractor who gave me the best quote (it's got to come about 850kms down to my place near the coast) and I'm waiting on him to come back to me with his availability.
Suffice to say that I hope to have it within the next two or three weeks and get to work on fixing up the problems (brakes, gear selection, starter) so I can get to work with it!

So I stumbled across the video below of a restoration of an Australian 212 grader yesterday and I noticed the hydraulic power steering booster on it! The owner thought that it wasn't original equipment, but looking at the mounting bracket it looks OEM to me...
You can see the video here:
Does anyone have any thoughts on tracking down the part number (if it's a Cat part) or perhaps even a line on a second hand one?

That looks like a Charr Lynn set up to me. I do not know if that was the option Cat offered at the time or not. It is a very clean install though.

Kracked1 - ok, thank you that gives me a name to work with! And I agree it's definitely a nice install, which is why I thought it was OEM.
