D2 5U Dozer Blade identification

Neil, if the one in Gore doesn't work out I think I'll go for the 5U13058, which is an AG Cat, without a blade and it looks reasonably unmolested. The pony turns but has bad end float and the main engine turns over. The main thing is the steering clutches will need work. Main clutch seems fine. It has a PTO, track tin is in place too. Rails and sprockets are good but the pins and bushes need turning.

Looks good Mark. That rail at 2.875 is 50% I think so that's good (from memory 3 is 0% and 2.750 is 100%). Pity it wasn't over 13237 because that's when the two-piece clutch shaft came in but on the other hand, it has the short rails so more ubiquitous. Looking forward to seeing either of them run! : )

Cheers,
Neil

your in luck though the radiator cap is there that is 150aud as we had to buy one for our machine.
what Neil said about tins over the exhausts is very important particularly for the starting engine as it exhausts through the intake manifold and is a thin tube that rusts through easily and can dust the main if your unaware also starting the main would be difficult so good idea to check that with borescope etc. a old farmer clued me up to that i think he had learned the hard lesson.

Hello Neil, I got some video of the D2 in Gore yesterday, it looks in awesome cosmetic condition and the original paint has hardly a mark and still has gloss. The decals are all legible and the side tank still has Gough's Dealer decal on it. The drawbar even has the wear plate still. The service meter shows 3940hs! It's a little hard to see what the tracks are like from the images so I'm hoping to go down there and have a look at it in person in the next few weeks before making a decision. The serial number is 5U6373 if you wanted to look up your records. I'd be very interested if you can tell me who the original owner was (just to see if the 'almost too good to be true' story holds water)!

we have done the pour diesel down its throat and leave it trick before and it does work it just takes time. the motor we did it to still runs over 20 yrs later.
once you get the head off a block of pine and a knockometer can be used to give each piston a little love tap and it just might free up each time top up the diesel.

Ok found the Goughs serial # listing:
- 5J3036 - R. Raine, Stoke
- 5U519 - F.S. Nola and Sons, Ltd. - Auckland (Kumeu)
- 5U5576 - B. Linnell, Kaiwaka
- 5U6373 - J.R. Byers, Gore
- 5U13058 - I.K. Campbell, Heriot
- 5U15604 - C.A.E. Cashmore and Sons, Ltd., Auckland
- 5U18507 - W.R. McNabb, Nelson

The one from Auckland migrated a fair distance. Let me know the serial # of your cousin's Twenty-Two and I'll look it up. I counted up the # of units that were listed specifically in Marlborough and it's a pretty decent # - 5 Two Tons, 26 Tens, 18 Fifteens, 12 2F Twenty-Twos, 14 1J Twenty-Twos, 3 4J R2s, 6 6J R2s, 5 3J D2s, 21 5J D2s, 64 5U D2s, and so it goes. At the time these listings were printed out, there were 406 Twenty-Twos imported, and 1838 D2s/R2s. Seems like a lot for a fairly small place where the import price was high.
I got this listing from John Neal who hails (hailed?) from Budge St, Blenheim I think about 20 years ago__PRESENT

Neil

If you collect any serial #s, send them to me and I'll look up who Goughs sold them to. This listing goes up through 5Us, 7Us, 9Us, and 2Us for example, so '50s-ish. It doesn't have any of the tractors that also came out in the 50s such as 14As or 36As, D9s etc.

Cheers,
Neil

Thanks very much Neil, very much appreciated! The 5J from Stoke and the 5U I've just purchased from Gore are true one owner machines! The 5U from Kaiwaka is the one that's come the most distance as it's now in Richmond, Nelson. I'd be very interested to know how many were sold in the Nelson Tasman region, or is that included in the numbers from Marlborough? I will certainly keep collecting serial numbers and keep you posted.
