Hi, Jan M.
The rumors that I am hearing seem to indicate that the SD8 LGP at the Anchorage airport was, at least in part, being used to push peat and muskeg into or near a sand lake - seems like it might be a good machine for that with its low ground pressure.
Having just had a look at 'ol' faithful' Google Earth, I'm guessing that it would most likely be the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. 'Zattso??????

Hi, Folks.
Here is a video of the conversions of the modern counterparts for Mary Ann and Rebecca:
Nice looking units but I don't think they will have either the 'work ethic' or the 'eye candy' potential of the original Ice Queens.
Full congratulations though to Peterson Cat for a magnificent job well done. I did hear about this while I was 'over the puddle' earlier in the year but was 'sworn to secrecy'.

Hi Deas,
Chapter 19 is negotiating with the French Government to acquire the very first Challenger tractor down on the ice, currently in Hobart, it is a 65 that was prepared by William Adams for the French, whilst down there various other groups including Australian and US Antarctic divisions borrowed this tractor to trial it. Unfortunately it is in a very poor state, needing a lot of work to bring it back to a running tractor, however we see it as an important piece of Caterpillar history from the Antarctic and are going to make it a Chapter project to restore it over time. Some State and Federal government departments have made some noise about financially helping out as well as some other philanthropists.
Regards, Wombat

Hi, Wombat.
I just KNEW there was hope for at least some of you 'Mehicans' and 'Patagonians if there' was enough 'bait' laying around for you to get a bite of. THAT would be a GREAT catch if you can pull it off.
We shall await further developments.
BTW, you should know by now that there are those on this BB who won't let you off so lightly. They WILL DEMAND photos. LOL.

Deas and all,
I will make sure we get a comment from "Sprocket71" on these new Challengers. I am sure operator comfort is hugely improved but not sure about how much work they can get done. The loads look a lot lighter than the old wanagans stretched out behind the Stretch D8s.
