Good old 3070!
The first time I saw a 3070 eagle with the trimmed out sleeper I fell in love. My dads company had one with a tipper body and dog trailer hauling pine bark from interstate and it was a lovely truck.

Great pictures, thanks for taking the time to post!
How many Dodge or DeSoto trucks made their way down there? Were they U.S. built or was there a factory in Austrailia? The Pilot House truck looks like it's U.S counterparts, but the Power Giant has a different face than ours would have.
Andrew, tell me more about the air intakes on your truck. Are they simply extented up with a screen to keep the bugs out, or is there more to it than that. I've always thought those were neat and I run in quite a bit of dust at times. I'm thinking my ole Star could use a set.

I got somewhat interested in them as a kid when I learnt they had a 903ci V8. I got even more interested when my brother looked up the CPL list for the 435hp configuration and we installed that. Made a whole different truck out of it - it was like driving a car, even loaded (which turned out to be its demise as a slacker of a driver rolled it loaded with logs....). Only truck I've ever been in that could spin the tires on asphalt (empty with the four axle trailer loaded on the back) doing 40mph : ) admittedly after going over a rise but it was still an excellent gag : )
Bruce, everything down under has snorkels, even pickups. I suppose it reduces the frequency of having to blow the crud out of the air filters, but sometimes you just can't get above the dust. I prefer the cyclone precleaners on the top of a snorkel.

The snorkel is simply a pipe attached to the air cleaner with a air scoop on the top.
This sucks the air from up high away from the dust. Seldom need to clean the filter elements.
When working with other trucks some operators need to clean them daily. Would probably clean these only once a year just because I think it should be done.

Many Toyota Landcruisers are fitted with snorkels as well, allows them to be driven through deep water ie flooded creek crossings etc without sucking water into the motor. My friend 'The Squire' has river country, and during flooding has to traverse flooded lagoons to access parts of his station. He often has water over the bonnet/hood has to keep windows up as water comes up the windscreen. So snorkels reduce both dust in the dry months and water ingress in the wet months.

Heh, Wombat you should see all the Queen St farmers running around with snorkels in NZ (no dust, no deep water crossings outside the cafe in Auckland : ). I think Toyota just sell them that way now there.
Mind you, nothing worse than my wife commuting to work in the F350 4x4 down to college!
