Replied by edb on topic Undated Sales Blurb.
Hi Willie,
looking further through the same Sales Blurb it indicates that the same 4 3/16" x 5 1/2" engine fits the 28 Tractor as stated , and the No 42 Elevating Grader!!
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks edb,
Thought I had lost it completely. Sure glad you stashed the info on this stuff as having a selected unit does not tell the whole story. How can we capture this information trail before it is lost completely????? I'd be willing to work with you on a new listing, maybe based on that comprehensive list I posted but with just models, engine options and production years. Willy are you available to edit such a list?. I'd think ACMOC would be the org to compile this sort of thing but I can see it just ain't going to happen.
The last guy that tried to organize this grader stuff "Northart" was pissed off by the BB group and has "left the building".

Replied by edb on topic 7E S/No block
Hi again OM,
Not in a fit state yet to tackle such a project, but, am willing to help and share what ever I have to any such project.
When it is realised that the Grader Unit S/No Idetification numbers are just that and the Engine S/No Identification numbers are just that and there are multiple engines available--perhaps depending on year etc.-- it kind of makes sense.
As for the 7E and 7E1 serial number block(group) being allocated to several size and/or same model Graders (Auto Patrols) I see this as being the same as the "E" numbers being allocated to Track Type Tractors eg.--"5E"= R2,R3,R5,R6,RD6,RD7,etc. and Engines eg.--"5E"= D13000, D9900,D6600,6500G,etc. These were perhaps pre production units or low production specials. If we check out the Cat S/No /Product Id No Index eg. Form No SEBF 9451-you will see what I mean. So don't be spooked by several same or different size units with the same E prefix.
Had not seen the grader sheet you posted before with the production dates thereon so that is a bonus, if it can be trusted, NUMERAL KOD is my stand by for dating, give or take six months and changed later parts.
Some confusion may also have come in with the purchase of the Russell outfit as to some early Cat Production units being from there and being Id'd with the E designation?, perhaps I am reading too much into it, as it's too far down the track now to possibly find out. Sorry, I rattle on!! and will confuse things further for you.
This is just my take on the whole picture of S/Nos and "E" prefix.

Willie,
thanks too for for your input here with pix etc. together we will sort it as close as we can for this distance after the fact. It is frustrating but we now can only work with what Yellow Father has left us, confusion!! but maybe some logic will get us close.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi again edb,
Ok, I'll muddle along collecting what I can for now. Will tap you for info.
I'm a little confused about the "E", designation. Got one of the SEBF9451-25 manuals and have found it to be just about useless and in some cases "dead wrong". At best all you get is a start production date. Guess I need a short coarse in how to interpret. Very confusing:rolleyes:

Interesting that back then they used separate engine and grader numbers and after a long period of time of single model numbers, returned to the separate numbers again.

Thanks again for your help.
