Ahhhh, I have a soft spot for tailseat machines. Looks to be a factory DE machine? Tricked out seat railing; assuming it is later serial number with bent levers and different radiator. Tell us more please. Thanks, JM

JM, I don’t know much about it, got the crawler from a friend who got it from the original owner after he passed about 2 years ago. Spent its whole life in Stockton on a small orchard. Its a late model direct electric start, 1956 I believe. Has around 6500 hrs on the meter, and she starts right up. Clutch or trans is making some vibration and noise in neutral, and the left steering needs adjustment or replacing, as the lever has to be pulled down to your leg sitting in the seat to make a turn. But both brakes are nice and tight which I find odd. Once I get a few of my Deere projects out of the shop I will start on this one

Hi, trainzkid88.
Methinks your optometrist let you down - again. I think you will find that there is a PAIR of SIX-71s in that rig. Tay ker look at the nice, shiny, silver exhaust manifold on the rear unit in that photo.

Yes, the Super 70s and Super 90s both had 3-71s but that wasn't enough for the bloke who built that rig. I have heard that he also built it with just two drive axles for a start and then added the third drive axle later.

AnthonyF: Yes, sounds like you just need to adjust the left side some. I have had some D2s that just needed adjustment and the brakes mashed on to free up. Is the vibration when clutch engaged as well, or disengaged in neutral only? That is a nice D2.
Do not panic, we will have 2 trucks in your area this morning, helping customers and another tractor fanatic. Not poaching!
Your area has always been a favorite, as I keep my eyes peeled for stray kitties along the way. JM

Anthony’s that steering clutch symptom sounds like it spent some time pulling an offset disc. The area in east Stockton up towards Farmington and Linden was full of small orchards and just about every one had a D2 and or D4 or 2 back when that tractor was new.

Juiceman: In my limited time I left it running, it makes a grumbling sound with the clutch engaged and transmission in neutral, clutch has a soft snap too. I’m going to have to pull the fuel tank eventually to get to the adjustments. Also looks like the water pump is leaking, guess that’s better than the radiator.

@CR I think this tractor only pulled an offset disc, doesn’t have hydraulics so it couldn’t have done much else
