Nic, it has been a while, but the diaphragm that Then and Now sends does not come with the little pushrod. You have to remove the pushrod from the old one and put it on the new diaphragm. I dont recall it as difficult to do.

I emailed Then and Now several times and did not get a response. When I got them on the phone they said their website was screwed up and had been for a while. If folks cant get thru, try the telephone.
Grant.

Hi Brewzer,

Where abouts are you located in the world?
Could be interested so long as I find a push rod.

Cheers Nic

Hi Grant,

I too have recently emailed them but yet to have a response. I just assumed the push rod came with it, as I swear I saw it in the pictures of the pump kit on their website.

My only issue is the the pushrod had obviously failed in the past and the original owners went to replace the internals of the fuel pump, but never got around to it. So I have the original diaphragm, but alas, no pushrod.
Thank for the insight! May have to try the phonecall route.

Cheers Nic

I am located in central California in Morgan Hill. The pushrod is not part of the fuel pump. It is a separate piece.

Is the pushrod a plain part? Could it be made? Perhaps cut down from a valve pushrod?

Hi Neil,

I cannot find a pert number for just the pushrod by itself in the parts catalogue. It only refences the diaphragm assembly, but nothing about the push rod. And i dont have anything for reference to base off. As I have the original diaphragm, but the push rod was broken off/rusted off.

Cheers Nic

Neil,
I measured two fuel pump pushrods at about 4 inches long with a diameter of about 0.421 inches. The Cat 22 valves that I have measure a diameter of about 0.425 inches and larger. Since the pushrods have been out of the tractor for over 10 years, I can't remember how tight or loose they felt when installed.

I don't have any 22s with fuel pumps installed but I have two brass pumps that I want to put on my two nicest ones.
Pete

We are discussing two different pushrods here. The pushrod that runs from the cam (I think) to the lever on the fuel pump and the little pushrod that the diaphragm is on. It seems like Draytown is needing the one for the diaphragm. If Draytown also needs the one that powers the pump. Brewster or Peter C and give measurements to make one. It should be easy, but make sure the metal is the correct hardness or the rod could eat up the cam.
Just my 2 cents worth. Grant.

Good info Peter and Grant. I was going to say, Draytown, that I could also pull the one out of my Twenty-Two and get measurements off it, although this one is a 1J series so without a part number, who knows if the pushrod part is the same (unless Peter and Wally do)

Cheers,
Neil

From my experience with these pumps, I'm with GrantJ, it is the push rod connected to the diaphragm that rots away, and needs a replacement made, not the external rod that drives off the cam, the other issue I found was the one way valves in the pump are a oddball size that is very hard to buy off the shelf, and that is where the good guys at Then and Now really stepped up to the plate, from memory machining a different valve to fit in the body.
