I got the 1A5592 from a 7U D4 parts book, that had the same parts as you had pictured. Cat has the 8F8080 for $51.00

The boot and ring for the shifter on the 955 12Axxxx (form UE032563-00) are the same part numbers as the D4 7Uxxxxx (form 32504)
NOTE::::
RING is 8F8080
BOOT is 8F8079

I've been busy today digging out the grader and dodging hungry moose.

Rome K/G: For what itis worth the part 1A5592 will not work in place of 8F8080. The flange on 1A5592 is not large enough to hold the boot in place inside the Plate (item # 8) in the drawing for the later tractor. The top of 1A5592 is formed to hold the seal (item #5) and is made to be used on the earlier tractors. If you look at the exploded view of the gear shift lever for the earlier tractor it shows both 1A5592 and 8F8080 in the picture. 1A5592 (item #13) actually forms the top of the Socket (item #14) in the earlier tractor drawing so the seal (item#18), Cover (item #12), Spring (item#17), and Cover (item #11) sets on top of it to create a seal for the top of the shifting lever. Item 8F8080, Plate (item #16) in earlier tractor drawing and ring (item #3) in the later tractor drawing holds the boot in the top of the shifter.  In the later tractor drawing the adaptor (item #6) is made to hold the seal eliminating the need for 1A5592. I will make the ring for my shifter to hold the boot in place.

I apologize Brian, I was trying to match what was in the parts book but it is hard to tell with small photo in the parts books.
I did find this though,

OK ... I half to get some snowshoes anyway so if you're still having trouble I'll go get a ring for you out in the yard. Wednesday or Thursday is the best I can do.

Fat Dan:  Don't go trudging in the snow to take a part off your parts machine for me.  I appreciate the effort, but I solved the problem.  I chucked a piece of 8 round X  1 1/2 inch thick stock in the lathe and made the ring to hold the boot (item #9) in the Plate (item #8) in the later tractor drawing.  Cut a taper on the inside and outside of the ring to match the boot and it holds it in place really tight once it is bolted down.  Took some time to turn the outside down so I could drill the holes to bolt it up and trim the outside to match the outside of the tower but it worked out really good.  I also machined a brass ring for the top of the Adaptor (item #6) so it would hold the seal (item #5) in place.  I think it will work fine.  The drawing I have been referring to are from the Jensales Manual for the D 4  Crawler S/n 4G,7G,2T,5T,6U &7U.   I agree Rome K/G, some of the parts book pictures are very hard to read but it all worked out good any way.   Thanks for all the help.
Picture #1 shows the ring holding the boot in the plate

Picture #2 shows 1A5592 and the ring 8F8080 together.  A lot of difference

Picture #3 shows the entire shifting tower as it will be bolted together on top of the transmission

Picture #4 shows the ring as I made it from the top where it will clamp the boot in place
