D4 7U Traxcavator For Sale

First this is NOT mine.  I have been working with someone that mentioned he had an old Cat that he is going to get rid of.  I asked him to send me some pictures (thinking it was a D2 from his description).  Based on the pictures it looks like a D4 7U Traxcavator.  I am posting for him, as it looks very complete, except missing the tracks, and would hate to see this simply scrapped.  Stuart mentioned that the tracks have already been scrapped.

I'm headed out there this weekend to get more detailed information, so if anyone wants a photo or anything specifically assessed, let me know. I'm going to take a battery, gas, diesel, oil, and coolant to see if anything will run. It's been in that barn since it was driven in there to get new undercarriage so theoretically it would run but years of not running would take its toll I'm sure

Cheers,
Neil

I see it has a high/low reverse, I have a lead on another machine already but if that falls through (should know this week) I may be interested for the right price I need the two speed reverse. I am located in North Jersey.

I checked the machine over yesterday and would characterize it as likely easy to get running. It was driven into an enclosed barn, the tracks removed in order to replace them and the sprockets, but the project got put on the back burner (20 years ago : ). The brand new sprocket rims are there ready to go, but the rails were scrapped so supply your own. We made an attempt to start the pony yesterday but didn't have replacement points and condensor on hand. Those, a set of plugs, and clean out the carb and I suspect it will run. It has adequate compression and the electric start turns it over fine. The machine is complete apart from the tracks. The main engine looks like it would have no issue starting, and given that it was driven inside and parked in order to change the undercarriage, I think that's a fair assumption. I can't comment on the steering and main clutch but the levers felt ok. The bucket is in good shape and has all its seven or eight teeth. The main has oil, not overfull, the pony was out but I topped it up before attempting a start. The serial # is 7U18584 but I couldn't quite make out the Trackson serial #. There were no obvious leaks. I'll put a couple of photos up tonight. Stuart also has a very nice 300hp Cat generator for sale that I'll put up later as well. Not one I've commonly heard of on the forum.

Cheers,
Neil

I have a set of rails and pads for your tractor .They have worn pins and bushings. I replaced them with a rebuilt set and they have lain in the pasture since. I am located in southern Manitoba.

That's got to be an early Trackson serial No. for D4 ....My best guess from pictures
Trackson (coined the name Traxcavator) made Attachments for some Cat D2 & Cat D4 base 7U units until c.6/1950 when Cat bought Trackson.. Cat continued using the Trackson name till early 1955, when Cat came out with a line of of its own - "Traxcavators" 933, 955, 977.. with longer five (5) roller track, longer rails and the osculating support spring became solid to support the added weight and weight lifting capacity to the front on the machine. Low profile grousers (1's 2's, and 3's grousers) also helped with turning and wear on pads and undercarriage longevity. One attachment was a sidedump bucket. It
Manitoba? Isn't that over on the Eastern side of West Texas. LOL Wink, Wink..
Seriously Manitoba is Gods Country , I went through there in hummm 1964, I think it was in November... I just drove across the western Provinces of Canada through the Yukon Territory and down through BC headed down to Washington State and then a quick U-turn back to Alaska  ..... Burrrrrr I hit -64°C temp that is a whapping -83°F near Otter Falls Cutoff, Haines Junction. Jan. 6th-7th 2022 c.midnight near the 1546 KM marker Alaska Highway, Haines Junction, Yukon, Y0B 1L0
The extremely nice lady ... offered me, without a doubt, THEE best cup of bad coffee I think I've ever had .
Did you know? when Hell freezes over cameras and credit cards don't work ?.... I did not know that.

Hey guys I am bumping this back to the top because I just spoke to Stuart through emails yesterday and he is about ready to get this machine out of his barn I was originally the one supposed to be getting this machine but unfortunately I will not be able to follow through with this machine so it is up for grabs hopefully someone is interested and we can find a home for this machine when I get a little more time I will post some more of the pictures that he sent me personally, as you can see in the pictures it is missing the tracks and I noticed in a few of the pictures he sent me personally it looks to be missing bottom rollers on one side

If there was a set of rails close by, I'm sure a local would be interested. "All it needs" is rails as the new sprockets are with it
