Yes, I found a drawing of the 3 section wheel and thought it was an extra that could be used on any implement. I dont have the book that I saw the drawing in, but it seems that it said you could adjust the springs for more or less tension. Chaining it sounds like a real world solution. Thanks, Grant.

I got a JD 2 bottom plow last year to pull behind a 22 also. It didn't have a drawbar on it at all. Going over to a friends place I studied all the plows and break-aways trying to determine the easiest to fabricate. I determined it wasn't worth the effort to try so I built a drawbar to pull the plow with. I am lucky we have no issue with boulders and roots but have determined that the 22 will spin out if you hook onto something you shouldn't!
The one type is the wheel type you describe and the second type is a spring actuated single hook slider. It would take a really strong spring that you would use to hold the latch hook. I think my one bottom IH plow is this type verses the wheel type?
Just make sure if you are swinging a deal to buy a drawbar assembly it comes off from a like numbered bottom plow so the tension will be somewhat set to what you need!

I am going to keep looking, but for now I will put a supply of long weak pins in the tool box. The ground I want to plow was Pine and Oak forest until about 25 years ago and there are lots of old stumps and boulders in it. I have had an eye out for a long time for a tow behind single tooth ripper, but the only ones I have found have been for D6 or bigger. I guess 22s and D2s were not considered strong enough to bother building small rippers. Even if I dont find what I am looking for, I have fun looking. Grant.

John Deere and International both made a small Ripper for Farm use. I saw a JD one years ago in NYS and I have an IH one here.

drujinin, how deep does the IH ripper go and would you happen to have a photo of it? I have seen a small ripper locally, but it is really old and boxy and maybe was horse drawn. It was interesting but look like a D2 would break it. It is yard art at a local fruit stand. I looked carefully at my brothers 2 bottom JD plow and it has a couple of serious bends that probably came from catching a big rock or root. The plow came with a Lindeman which is basically a Johnny Popper with tracks, so I dont think it is high horse power. I will keep looking and use a weak link/pin until I find something correct. Thanks, Grant.
