Does anyone have one of the old time spring controlled breakaway connectors for sale? I want to do some plowing with my 22 and I have an ancient, very heavy duty plow that I am worried about catching on a boulder or big root and doing damage to my Cat or even the plow. Is there a new version of these for sale anywhere? Thanks, Grant.

I just found the proper name in an old book "Cushion spring release hitch". I google it and didnt come up with anything. probably one of those old and forgotten items. Grant.

Do you have a picture of your current plow hitch, also can you tell what make and model the plow is?

I have two different plows. A John Deare 2 bottom and a heavy 3 bottom with no name to be found. I looked at a John Deare piece of yard art yesterday and it seems that the release is actually part of the draw bar. I had thought it was a separate hitch that could be used with any implement. My Cat mechanic friend who is a REAL FARMER , rather than a hobby farmer like me says to just pull slowly and I will stall the 22 before anything breaks.
I have had no luck sending photos since I switched to Windows 10. I am so frustrated that I sometimes think of a track wrench beating my computer screen. I will call the place that Rome mentioned and I saw a farm yesterday that had about a dozen old implements buried in the tall grass. I will go knock on a door tomorrow. It is all fun, Grant.

Good attitude wish mine was as graceful when I switched to windows 10. I'm not a farm hand, at all, but I did inherite an old JD disker. I cannot for the life of me remember how many disks, they say that comes with wisdom or age ... I just can't remember witch one it is. HAHA
Digress: The tow hitch from what I remember SOUNDS like what you described. I'll go take some pics before I head outside for the day..

No way as handy, but use a small pin that will break before part of your plow breaks. Don't know what tools you have available, but a heavy disc is the most friendly equipment if you have big buried object you want to till over.

It usta have have model numbers painted on it but is you can see it had been awhile and even longer before I cut it out of the trees and made an eighth mile road to get it out of the old field. Looks like the trees are trying to reclaim it again.

The plow hitch is just plain steel with the standard hole in the end. The John Deare that I saw a few days ago had the breakaway built as part of the hitch, not something you could just bolt on. I had assumed (assuming often gets me in trouble) that I could just buy something to hook between the implement and the tractor but it doesnt look that way. The suggestion of a weak tow pin sounds like it might be the easiest solution. A few extras in the tool box and good to go. I will still give Anderson Tractor a call.
Thanks for the education. Acmoc is a real education service. Grant.

Hello all
In 1950 my dad bought a new D2 and a JOhn Deere 4 bottom 16” trip hitch plow. I put a lot off time that most in 2nd gear. The hitch had two heavy spring that the tractor pull agents. There was wheel that had three section that rotated, one section hook in to a 3/4” ring that hooked to the tractor. If you hit a stone or sump the would release. One year it was very dry, and I plow 80 acres in first gear with the plow chained to the tractor because keep unhooking.
