That's a clean looking machine!
Wonder what other problems it has?

It looks nice from what I can see, I might be in the area in the next few weeks, would be interesting to take a first hand look. What engine would this have and what would a suitable replacement would cost

Replied by edb on topic 943 Cat Hydrostatic Trans.
Hi Team,
sounds like a leg out of bed job has been done to the engine.

Hydostatic trans. system of HPCU (Hydraulic Power Control Unit) and Track Motors can be a nightmare of mega $$$$$$ to fix if it has not been looked after with regular services etc.
The trans. system itself was brilliant but when something goes wrong or dirt etc enters they get mega expensive to repair.
Did several of all sized machines--they all use the same trans core even up to the 973 so a 943 unit is low stressed-- at The Dealers.
Not unknown for the poor little 3204 to throw a rod as they spin fairly fast with a big heavy flywheel that can shear the flywheel bolts if an escaping rod gets jammed and the crank stops suddenly.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Today I did a on site visit for a in person inspection. The story I got, The owner bought it 7 years ago and used it for small jobs( personal use) for 4 years. He said it ran fine when he parked it 3 years ago, this spring they tried to start it and no joy, it would roll over but no start. He hired a local guy to look into it and the hired guy discovered the hole in the oil pan. The hole is the size of a dinner plate and the piece that broke out is intact in 1 large piece laying in the belly. The radiator is full. there is no sign of broken rod parts of impact from one. My guess is it some how it got water in it and froze ?

Any Ideas ?

Its located at the back of a field and would have to be towed 1/4 mile to be loaded on a truck, is there anything that needs to be done to tow it ?

Can the oil pan be changed without pulling the engine ?

Would this engine have a oil pressure shut down that is prevent it from starting ?

Would be worth putting a battery on it and turning it over to see if it makes some clunking sounds

Cheers,

The oil pressure shut down just puts the rack to idle, I think.
