Besides draining the coolant and lifting the pony motor up a couple inches, getting that pinion housing out can be a challenge as they're generally stuck pretty tight. Plenty of loose juice, tapping and gentle prying is the way to go.Don't get getting the biggest pry bar you have as the ears (where the bolts go) can break off. Once you can move or twist it a bit keep at it with gentle force. There's an o ring on that housing that after all these years can get real stubborn.

I've had the housing broke loose but never completely off. Or the internal parts out. How can I send pictures?

probably need to remove the governor cover to get enough room to pull the assembly out also
