I have a complete pinion assy off of an 8t cat 12 grader. D315 engine. I working order. $300. + shipping.

the 8T would be a D318 not a D315? might be the same i not sure

You are right. Don't have a complete assy # but housing # is3b6402 and pinion is 6b1360 13 tooth. It was also the same assy as off a 9k with the 466 eng 6cyl. My question is if it looks that bad, what does the pony gear housing look like. I would pull it down further to see what the rest looks like. The pony has to be lifted to extract the pinion assy.

I was trying to make sure everything is good on engaging and disengaging. It's on a d4 5t dozer. I still need a magneto but I hooked power to the starter and the pony motor does turn along with the engine. I have the lever off but its engaged to turn the engine

Is there a way to reach the latches on the pinion to disengage it? I probably have a mag. It may have the wrong orientation for the impulse coupler, but if you have electric starter on the pony the impulse is not needed.

The D4 mag does not use an impulse coupling. The A/B mag that looks close, but has an impulse instead of a gear may be from a D318 pony.

How hard is it to slide the housing off? The bolts were out of it but the housing wasn't free. I don't know much trying to learn and fix it at the same time. I wanted to see what parts were available because I didn't know how easily I could get parts. They look pretty bad but I wanted to see if they'd clean up enough to function ok
