this dose not sound good at all. but i will say that I beaning a Canadian have never had problems with pay pal and international stuff before. oldbeek do you have more info as i think you might be miss lead. i paid for stuff from U.S.A China Germany japan with pay pal i don't do much as they really kill you on the exchange for you but works just fine.
Ben a couple of years ago when I was buying some stuff from Gemdozer. The reason I got is PAYPAL was only good in the US. Does it work both ways across the border for you? Don't quote my experience then. I really like PayPal. No cost on either end when transferring money to my kids. Sometimes they even transfer some back.

Guys these scams go on all the time. They even pose as cops trying to raise money through donations for a police ball. A person has to be careful. We had a local lady get a call telling her that her grandson had been involved in an accident in Mexico and needed cash right now for medical treatment. She actually went to the bank and got money out and was going to go to Walmart to send it. She ran into her husband who ask her did you try calling him to verify? So she did, he was on the campus at college in Fargo ND. Another local guy got basically the same call. Had his grand son's name right and everything......kid is 3 years old and was at home with mom. Another tried this with my daughter and grand daughter. Looking for a replacement dog. Found one on craigslist in Fargo, about 90 miles. Daughter had to wait a couple of days because of her work schedule. They started calling her pestering. She ask if I would go with her as she was getting nervous. Then they called and wanted her to wire money to hold the dog. That's when she new it was a scam. She was in tears thinking of what could of happened had she just gone up with just her and my grand daughter.
Now a lot of scams are from off shore. They use spoof programs to generate phone numbers for your caller ID, sometimes from the local area. Most of these ones offshore the government of the country they are in will not even attempt to look for these people. Some have gotten to where they speak good English.
All this sucks for legit guys with stuff to sell and buyers. You can still safely make transactions. You just gotta me more careful. And for the most part if it sounds too good? Run!

If everybody out there was as honest as Gemdozer there would be no fraud problems. I have purchased from him a few times and he has at times sent my stuff before my check even got there. He is among the best and tells you the true condition also.

What scammers like this need is an “attitudinal adjustment” via a 2x4 over the head mixed in with a couple of swift boots up the backside. Oh I’m sorry, did I offend someone? No use for these humanoids in the least.

I agree, just gotta figure out how to positively ID them.

This dude pulled the stunt on me a week ago ! Unbelievable deal on parts I needed from my add on this site , but needs cash now . The deal fell apart when I had a friend in the Reno area willing to meet him and give him cash and pick up my parts . He can sell a good story and must have some knowledge about old cats . Please keep an eye out .

Thanks for the warning! I happened to bump into frauds too. That's so sad because it degrades reputation of online markets. By the way, how I determined it was fraud. I checked a zip code which was mentioned in the post and it was Detroit's
worldpostalcode.com/united-states/michigan/detroit
however the topic started told they were from Sweden.

The guy who scammed me and also contacted Moulding was definitely in the Reno area. Do we have any club members in Reno? Perhaps they might know of someone who goes by the handle TJ. I'm thinking a Louisville Slugger across the kneecaps would be appropriate.

All,
It has been suggested that the ACMOC club act as an "escrow agent" (for a small fee and revenue for the club) in transactions between buyers and sellers of machinery and parts. That way a trusted party could facilitate the transfer of purchased/sold items without fear of fraud as being discussed here. A price could be agreed upon by both parties and then a buyer's payment sent to the club. Pending the arrival of the merchandise, payment would be released to the seller. I have not brought this up with the BoD but will if enough interest is shown here in having this option. I don't think this would be too hard to put in place.
What do you think about this idea?
