Git no idea what it would cost to haul something like a D8. A $1000 or so?

Renting a wrecker or another machine to load the dead beast on to a detachable gooseneck will add cost. Pull the blade and hall lengthwise on the truck to get the width down. Still if only a couple hundred miles should be doable fairly reasonable.

Old Red Tim,
If you're at all serious, go take a look. You might get lucky and she might start right up. Stranger things have happened. Oh, and don't forget your chain saw. Not sure where you are, but this tractor looks pretty good but you never know until you check it out. $1,500 for a 15A? This should not go to scrap!

Start using you network, I have relocated all 5 of my d6's and 2 d8's multiple times, all i ended up paying for was fuel. I traded some labour fixing a guys w800 kenworth and his 892elc JD excavator. he then let me use his winch truck and lowbed trailer to haul a 2u d8 over 200 miles, and he paid the fuel bill on that trip. when i was relocated for my job, i pulled and re-installed the engine on a JD 750 c crawler for another guy, he let me use his winch tractor and trailer to haul my 5 d6's to my new home i only had to pay for fuel. just this past summer, we were finally able to get both of my 2ud'8s to my new home. a good friend of mine owns a mack truck and a 10'6" wide lowbed and he let us use the truck and trailer for the cost of the fuel.
Do you know anyone that has heavy hauling equipment that would be willing to do some trading? i recognize that i may have an advantage as i have my Class 1 license, but maybe you can provide a service they need in exchange for the service you need?

Maybe someone is close and would go take a look for you , maybe the seller knows someone
who could load it ? thats the difficult bit , sort that out and sending someone to haul it is easy ....

If your lucky you would find someone looking for a back haul but someone would quote you per mile , the loading of a non running tractor would be your problem A buddy bought a D8 as a non runner we spent a day getting it running so we could load it...

My biggest worry is loading.
I've got one D8 15a I'm working on now (first dozer ever....been pickup trucks before this) that needs a head and piston and maybe a connecting rod.
I'm in Athens GA. Could make central Illinois in a good days drive.

If you could get the starting engine going, you could get it loaded, that being said that,s half the battle, if both engines turn over, I am sure with a little work you get them to run, Wish I was closer, thats the best part of Cat collecting

If you are overly optimistic and get the engines running how are you going to get the tracks to turn? Probably cut the links and pull it out on the rollers.

it is kinda of optimistic to believe that big cat motor is not stuck rusted tight or whatever if that stack has been open for a while in the midwest climate with all the rain and snow we have had in places the past few years the recovery is going to be a major undertaking that being said you dont get something for nothing there are resources available if the man is going to scrap it it is at great effort to him or the scrapper it would be nice if the parts could be saved or the entire unit these are great machines i have more than enough on my plate to even attempt this it will require some permits and a heavy duty wrecker of some type probably two trucks so the dollatrs addup rather quickly my first recovery was a dead ps30 that turned into an expensive project even to get it home only 35 miles away and i still have not learned my lesson yet but i am going to be very selective on what i go after good luck to anyone willing to tackle this chuck
