looking for two side plates for radiator would buy complete radiator
numbers are 5f1900 and 6h9852 this is for 5U17569 up tractor without oil cooler

If you are looking for just the D2 plates you can buy them. I think I got mine from "steeringclutch.com" or something similar in Oregon.? If you need help I'm sure I can find out.

I have no idea about UK costs, or if you can machine them in-house. About the design, am I wrong in thinking that they are just like the oil cooler style with the exception of the oil line attachment spot? If so, and you have a cooler style to modify, one process that would work is to find a foundry that uses oil or water bonded green sand, and will cast one off parts. With their advice, you could do the preparation work of the original roughly as follows: fill all imperfections, undercuts, and bolt holes, etc. Smooth all casting roughness, add material be it bondo, plywood, or wax to any machined surface to give machining allowance and/or allow for shrinkage. For example, the ends need to be machined, so add to the ends for machine stock and to comp for shrinkage. You can grind additional length into the end contour that the grill rests into. You can get thin wax sheets to warm and wrap around curved surfaces to add bulk if need be. But in any case, to avoid using casting cores all sides could use a slight draft, zero undercuts, and a smooth surface that is hard enough to pack sand against several times. Of course you would need to "doctor" the area where the lines attached, grind, fill etc.

I'm certain the difference over the older ones is just the letters cast into the sides are a different bigger font and yes the bit where the fittings would go into it for the oil cooler isn't machined , mine has one side badly repaired and the other is older smaller letters type Thanks for the advice re casting and yes I contacted general gear he has the older type only I was just hoping to make the tractor as original as possible , maybe some will turn up ...

Stephen, my scanner is busted so I can't upload the photo I was thinking of, but if you have the ACMOC magazine Issue #124, November/December 2015 that featured the 2015 National Show, on the cover is an early 5U D2 with a blade that has the more common smaller "Caterpillar" lettering on the vertical radiator sides, and the D2 without a blade that's parked next to it is the later model 5U with the bolder vertical "Caterpillar" lettering on its radiator. Look closely and you'll see the difference. Agan, if I could scan it I'd crop in and blow it up to make it easier to see.

*Edit* Got the new replacement scanner up and running, I guess this was finally the motivation I have been needing to get that done, lol. Pic below-

Yes thats the same as mine should be!! Interesting picture looks a late tractor, has the wrong heads on the pony !!!

Good eye to spot the head, but then I was looking at the cutting edges on the 2S next door. I need to reskin and make some edges over here.

Back to the casting, if a side plate was needed bad enough, the old style letters could be ground off the doctored sample. New style letters copied from the busted original and attached to the would be pattern.
Best to beat the bushes a while longer.

The newer style has only 2 3/8 bolt holes on the mounting pad at the top of the casting where light brackets and such could be mounted
