ok I have to ask, am I missing the obvious with this cat 60? $65,000 just seems awfully high. My neighbor has one that is almost museum quality and he purchased it for $21,000

I'm interested Pops! I can make $50.00 a month payments till the good Lord comes.
Mike, I've been to a few auctions and Sixty's in that condition usually sell for about $5 to $8,000. If they have the original undercarriage they sell for a little more.

Hello Yes the Sixty cat is made of caterpiller and best and holt parts this is when they merged . And thank you for your information on the patrol. I was not shore on that i appreciate your knowlege.
Made of Cat and Best parts I can understand but what Holt bits are fitted? Would be worth a look, the 2,5 & 10 ton tractors they were producing at the time were a different beast altogether and don't think too may parts would be useable on a sixty. Others who know more than me may be able to provide better info.

maybe he is selling this 60 and set the price at were is it thinking it is a "early" Caterpillar sixty.
But....this machine is 687 (estimated) units away from being a "early" Caterpillar Sixty.
The BEST Model Sixty was changed to Caterpillar in the year 1925 along with the model Thirty , 2 ton, 5 ton and 10 ton.
Based on the time at which Holt and BEST Merged to form Caterpillar (April 15th 1925) it is estimated that the offical change in name for the Sixty occured around unit# 2554A.
With that being said you of course have the right to ask what ever you desire for your machine, but maybe this information can help in establishing the fair market value.
Good luck with your sale, this fourm has helped sell many machines and we welcome anything caterpillar related.

I really want a Cat sixty but if theses are the prices people think they are worth with as many 60's that were made I will stick to buying the smaller low number made gas cats LOL. I can buy 5 more 7C's for that price:rockon:

Jason:
A frequent contributor here just bought a Best 60 project (a nice one at that) for a fraction of this asking price and last year, or maybe the year before, I bought a really nice late Best 6o (just before the combination of Best and Holt) for much less than 1/2 of the price asked for this Cat 60. They are out there Jason, be patient and one will come to you.
This one makes the really nice cold weather 60 that was on here a few months ago seem like a smoking deal for a much better and rarer tractor.
Tom
PS here is the listing for the nice Cold Weather 60.
