Joe - I got my gears from a parts CCU that was mounted on a parts 9U. My parts book shows 11 tooth pinion #4F3025 for SN# 9D501 - 9D5399, and 11 tooth pinion #5F4651 for SN# 9D5400 and up. The bevel gear associated with these two pinions is 4F3026. The 4651 and 3026 are also used if the 25 CCU is to be mounted on a 4R/5R D6, TD 24, HD 9, 15, 19, 20.

That's not what my parts book says.
I show 9D501 - 9D5399 as pinion 4F2102 (14T)
9D5400 - up as pinion 5F3932 (14T)
The D6 needs pinion 5F4651 (11T)

Might be easier to find a D7 than it is to find a pinion gear, heh heh.

Thanks for the part numbers. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of how the D6 performs with the incorrect 14 tooth pinion in it? I'm not trying to scoff at the good advice being given, just asking how this really affects performance?

The CCU was designed for a certain engine RPM to work properly. If installed on the higher RPM D4 it is going to spin much faster and probably be jerky at best or the tractor may not be able to handle it power wise at them faster drum speeds. I had the same questions on my 9U and ended up finding the correct CCU.

Sorry Old Magnet - I guess I should have elaborated a little more in my message. Because Joe is trying to mount the 25 on a 9U D6 I only gave the part numbers for a pinion that works with a D6. An 11 tooth pinion is required for the D6. The 4F2102 and 5F3932 are 14 tooth pinions and are for the D7 and D8 tractors.
Joe - The manual shows the 25 CCU having a line speed on a bare drum of 376 feet per minute on the D6 and 343 f.p.m. on the D7/D8, with the correct pinions of course. Maybe you could find literature for your scraper and see if a line speed operating range is given and go from there. If your scraper has a line speed of say 400 fpm you could be ok but if its much lower than the standard D6 376 fpm you might have issues.

That was kind of my thoughts too Pete, this is the S90 Bucyrus Erie and it has a multipart reeving to roll the bowl floor up and eject material so I'm guessing that won't make as much difference as the raise and lower of the bowl which might be choppy if the speed is off, but then again I am not doing serious grade work with it just yet.

As I said I'm not trying to scoff at good advice from the rest of you gents. This was my Grandfather's first cable scraper that he bought for his business and I am the grandson who ended up with it, truth is I have let it set for too long. I still have to fix a tire on it and I need to move it so I can move forward with a building this summer. I may end up biting the bullet and putting it all on so I can at least get my tires done and move the thing around, even if it isn't perfect just yet.

Oil Slick I wish you were closer, I still may call you about that one. I have priced pinion gears and they aren't cheap unless you find the deal locally.

This is the pinion I have, looks like I'll be ok. Thank you to everyone with the part numbers and advice. Looks like She'll do the way she is.

Replied by JoeG on topic coupling shaft
Does anyone in the know have any idea about the overall length of the coupling shaft that connects the input power on these? Also curious, before I drain and open up my machine if anyone knows if the splines are the same on D6 and D7? As I understood it the shaft I have worked on the D7, I don't know if it was ever in a D6 or not. I can cut down my shaft and reweld if spines are the same and if need be, I can also figure it out the hard way, but I thought I'd ask in case the knowledge was here all along. Thanks.
