Hmmm, I bet the D4E is at the Deere dealer in Idaho. I think it is 29X 724. I have six of these D4E SA tractors . My D4E SA tractors have Cat cabs with factory ac/ heat, sound suppressed. The factory cabs are also ROPS. The cabs are pretty air tight and dust free as long as you keep up on the maintenace. Up in the pacific northwest I am told one reason the aftermarket cabs were so popular is the Factory Cat cabs were so heavy and the D4s handled a little better on the slopes with the lighter cabs. These cabs are sure nice at the end of the day discing you dont cough up a wad of mud.

Hi Northern Idaho Farmer. Thanks for the great pictures do you have any of your land in the CRP program. what type of drum do you have in your J Deere harvesters are they peg type ? Thanks once again for the very interesting pictures. Atlas

We did put 50 acres in the CRP back in 96', it was really awful ground and grew terrible crops. Actually traded that land for some farmland across from it 3 years ago so dont own any anymore. A lot of the marginal steep, rocky, wet ground was put into crp near here, along with some good ground. We took out several hundred acres of a neighbors CRP and started farming it, pretty good ground. When they retired in 99' no one wanted the ground and it made more money in crp.

Great pictures....thanks for posting:)
Speaking of 98J, what happened to him?...used to post regularly but haven't seen him in ages. Kinda miss his pictures.

Thanks, he still posts on other forums not sure why he hasnt put up more recent pics of his D5. I agree his farming pictures are the best I have ever seen other than those of a pro.

Yep it is at the nearest j.d. dealer. Not very many D4Es around here, cats were becoming less popular when they came out and mostly D5Bs and D6Ds were bought in those late models. D4Ds were popular here though, know of two farms other than us within a few miles that have/had 84js.

Ours was one of the first with the 3304 engine, it has an aftermarket turbo and is a heck of an engine for its size.

And wow you have 6 of the D4Es? What to you use them all for and do you have any pictures of them? Seems like they might be a little small for serious disking, our 84J has a touch more HP than its weight can handle under heavy disking conditions, more weight and the tracks wouldnt spin so much under full load.

I saw an ad a year or two ago from someone in California that was wanting to buy D4E SA cats, that wasnt you by any chance was it?

And no I dont have pics of any other D4Es, I have one more of the same cat. Like I said I never see any working around here, mostly D5, D6, or older D4s.

Total cropped acres is 1,200- same size as two of our closest friends/neighbors.

A few farm a little bit less than that, most are up to 1,500-2,000 and then a few more guys doing 3,000+

Yep big fan of John Deere, Chevy, and Cat. Will throw in a few more pics just for you.

Thanks, we bought all the cats used in pretty good shape but they have had thousands of hours on them since then, we run them through the shop every year to keep them running top shape. Dad always figured that the most efficient way to farm was to buy used equipment and do our own mechanic work. Tracks will come off the D4D next winter and will get new pins and bushings, and the rollers worked on or replaced.

The 6622s are 80' and 82' models, but both have the newer features such as three chain feederhouse, 222 header, and reinforced torque tubes and a few other features the 1980 model didnt originally have.

We dont have anything steep enough to max the 45% leveling, only farm 35-40% slopes and I dont have pics from any of those, kinda hard to get the pics I want from the seat of one of the machines.

So whats the story woody, do you farm down there near Idiot Flats....or Idaho Falls whichever you prefer? :D

Anyway does anyone farm with steel tracks down there? I know there are some dryland hills east of there but I wouldnt think the irrigated country would be suited for the older cats.

Well it appears that the links I posted the pictures on last year no longer work. There may be a few of you who never saw them so I picked 10 or so of the best ones from 08' and earlier and will post them right here.

And yes you will see our practices changed in just 2 years time, you may notice that i was seeding conventional ground in fall and moldboard plowing as well. The D6B was in the shed enjoying its retirement those years so just the D4D and D6C were used.

as usual enjoy and any more questions you have about these or any of the others just let me know
