Also it is a HY stat is it not ? I know the 953 963 etc are hydrostatic but i think the hy stat machines are more of a pump and motor set up. try to find out the reliabilty of this type. I must say i prefer a powershift transmission any time. Regards Gordon.

I stood to be corrected. Cheers. I am suprised that it has A planetary trans. Most nowadays are hydrostatic. Where does this machine fit in to the line ? i just picked up a new product line brochure but its at work. I guess it must be 943 size or near on. Regards Gordon.

Gordon,
The 943 finnished in 1992-93 the 939 was meant as its replacement
but it is a lighter machine, I think hy-stat transmission is standard
on all Cat track loaders now, ( it might be an option on 933&939 )
the hy-stat transmission is very reliable if maintained properly,
I have been running 943's for 20 years with no major problems,

I think the earlier 9-3 series were expensive when transmissins were down ? would that be right Shovel man ? I have operated 953 and 963 machines and i like them, however my 951B was a fantastic machine to drive. I also have a 1975 c series all new cat running gear. Those 951's were great fun. Gordon, I would agree with you, the hy-stat transmission is very expensive
to repair if it fails, and the older 9 3 series machines may become quite rare
in time as it could be too expensive to repair them so they end up getting
scraped! saying that the hy-stat machine is so smooth to operate I would not
want to go back to power-shift.

The HPCU in the first Hystats was a very complex component and very labour intensive to repair. Bullit proof in the 43 and 53 but a bit undersized on the 63 and 73. Not much larger with three times the HP going through it. The current ones in small dozers and loaders are just two pumps and two motors electrically controled. The only drawback is they use the hyd oil and any failure requires the hyd system to be cleaned out aswell.

The 939 Cat loader that I am looking at has 5500 hours on the hour meter according to the construction contractor representative. It has a power shift transmission.

Dick buy yr self an oil samle kit run the old girl around for quarter of an hour the take samples. If the engine doesn't breath heavy and shows no signs of oil and water consumtion then after a running gear evaluation you can then put a total value on her.
