My Hyster book says to use Zinc, not lead. It clearly says in large letters "Dont Use Babbitt." When I worked around sail boats, some people used galvanized rigging with poured Zinc end fittings. The Hyster manual shows good diagrams. Grant.
Yes for Zinc. Learned that several years ago from a elevator company next door. Saw a guy making dead ends on cables one day. He has the strands unbraided and turned back into a special mold then he poured the molten zinc in encapsulating the strands.
I’ve a Hyster manual but can’t put my hands on it. Several years ago I read it, recalling the diagram on page 10. So I searched on line and found attached. Doesn’t answer your question on feeding the line with the ferrule end too big to thread, but left straight and pulled through you could ferrule and zinc molt the drum end. It’ll be interesting to see what you ended up with.
