Yes Mr. Side-seat. I have wished to have tried some of the good old leaded stuff here, and try the grounding trick with a battery (similar to powder coating method?).
All I know is my paint guy is pretty darned thorough; keeps a particular mindset when he is prepping for paint. I can't do it myself for what they charge me. I wanted to try Ritchie Bros. once, but due to Covid etc., I could never connect with anyone with their painting division, which I have been told was later turned over to a private party? (At least for their Dunnigan, CA location).
I have never had a tractor painted, as most here have a nice patina. This particular one has bare metal, black/gray primer spots, you name it. FUGLY. At this point, anything is better, and surely I will gain an additional 5 horsepower from it! Thx. JM

electrostatic painting is a real thing. its how many cars are painted as it gets a more consistant finish. some systems basically mist the paint over the car and it sucks the paint to the car. it looks weird to watch if you have ever used a spraygun.
ford australia was doing this in the 80s but it was still a manual booth with painters they had to wear special boot with metal bonding straps so they didnt get zapped if they went in the booth. mercedes and bmw still dip the cars in primer that is electrostatic charged to get a even coating of anti corrosion primer.

Hey Juiceman. I recognize that d4 from those side curtains. That was at Santa Margarita if I’m not mistaken. Hopefully I can establish some faces at either Santa Margarita or the Tulare show so I can put some more faces to familiar machines. Ive always liked the painting process (and been to poor and cheap to send it off as you never know what you’ll get). I’ve taken some auto body and paint classes (when im not in the welding program at my college) and I’ve sprayed a fair amount outside of that. If you have the coin and can pay someone with the right setup and an actual paint booth, it will save a lot of time and headaches. Having used both my driveway, and a temperature controlled, ventilated spray booth, the quality to time ratio is huge. You can get pro results in your driveway, but don’t expect it to be quick. Can’t wait to see it with a fresh paint job!

JM I was wondering yesterday why you were going to wait until February to get this painted, then when I opened the door this morning it was I see or rather I can’t see but know why you aren’t painting right now.
I remember when the local green dealer went from leaded to the stuff they have now.. night and day, the old leaded green would just flow so nicely and spread evenly.Â

SoCal: Please come on out to the World Ag Expo in February, or CAFES (Tulare) in April. Chapter 15 will kick start the antique farm show during the ag expo with some choice iron displayed for some of the 155,000 estimated attendees in February. After that seed is planted, we are working on getting a good display and demonstration for the 100 year CAT celebrations in April; Of course, we will be at SM as well, which will feature the Holt,Best and CAT brands.
Can't place a name without a face. Come on up!
Conner: (CR) the 7U is expected to be painted by Christmas, and I will leave it next door to the Ag Museum, which faces the back of the trailer folks paint booth.
I have done some painting myself in past, and agree; some paints flow so nice! Allis Chalmers "Persian Orange" is one of the easiest to apply. JM

This is what I got roped into on Black Friday for the local historical society for their Christmas parade. Actually roped into is a poor choice of words, after 7- 8 years of not painting anything it was nice to be asked to do something that important… I certainly am not a painter.Â

Wow!! Maybe it is the photo but that looks like IHC red rather than AC orange to me.
We had and old WC, 1937 I think, that dad used to pull a hay rack and it was definitely an orange tint to it.
I know some of the AC colors changed and are hard to match but our D17 was also orange tinted..
