I was just at our local Pear Festival. There were almost 20 wheel tractors in the parade with most of them being driven by women. Not a crawler to be seen and steel tracks being the reason. I have seen rubber bolt on pads to protect pavement. Are they sold anywhere or can they be made, borrowed, stolen or any other way to get a Cat 22 into next years parade?

John Souza from Clovis? He might make them still. Not cheap, but easy to bolt on and go.
I got lucky once and bought an entire pallet of them for $100.00; the single stud didn’t deter my neighbor, he made a fixture and burned a hole into the center of the pad and they bolted up thru the link.
I’d sell you “JD”, my D2 if you like.
As many pears as I’ve pulled in and out of Lake and Mendocino counties, that is the one pear festival I haven’t been to yet. We just wrapped up our Bartlett program from there only 10 days ago. JM

Yes, as Juiceman said, I can setup you us with a set. Easy to bolt on and not modification to the tractor.
Drop me an email at souzaj3 at yahoo dot com
Several people on the board have them.
John

i wonder would engineering nylon work. and its easy to work with. nolethane do supply liquid urethane resin for custom casting of bushes surely you could make a mould and embed a mounting plate with studs so you could bolt the to the track.

I have decided to forgo the parade. The pads are more than I have into my 22. They look really good but unless I was going to do shows and parades all of the time, it does not make sense. My 22 will stay as an old working tractor and not get famous in the local newspaper.

One option I thought about was putting a pad on every other grouser plate, more from the angle of how long it might take to install them than the cost, but presumably half the number of pads would be half the price. Problem might be the ride quality though.. Someone made pads out of hardwood blocks with bolts in them - could be another option? Or do what I do and have completely worn out tracks which are basically slicks! : )
Cheers,

I made sets for both my Cat 10 and my Oliver OC-6 out of white oak full 2x4 lumber. I beveled the edges, countersunk carriage bolts into the pads, put several coats of polyurethane varnish on them and bolted them on. These crawlers are just used at several shows every year, but they have held up very well. I made extra pads for replacements, but have never had to replace any yet.

Grant: Don't make me come over and invade your pear party! You are always welcome to show off my non-restored D2. The cost was worth it to me, to have one that was able to be driven on pavement etc.
Some patient folks have made pads out of "Rumber" or very hard wood. Me? I don't do so well with lumber, so I opted to go the lazy way. Aside from the cost, I have never heard anything "bad" about the "store bought" ones.
You might be able to find some slightly used pads via military surplus and adapt to your liking as well.
Best wishes, JM

I have done what Neil has suggested with the Souza pads, every other grouser, and they worked fine.

HMMMM, for a once a year event , maybe wood would work out. I had thought they would just splinter but if member 2103 has used them it might be a chance.
Juiceman, I have too many unrestored (mostly "unrunning") D2s. I just got a mag back from the rebuilder and might get the nicest one running on Monday Then I will use it to pull start a couple of other 2s and 4s.
Someday I need to come up and look at all of your toys! Grant
