How to take water pump apart from D4 7U? was created by gwoods
I have a broke bolt in the radiator belt tightener which was discussed earlier. I got info on need to remove water pump to remove broken bolt. I finally had to remove radiator due to removing water pump. Now I have water pump off and want to take apart to remove broken bolt. What is best way to do that? Help again.

Remove the center nut and slide the fan hub off, the pulleys can then be removed and separated. Note if you have to hammer on the shaft do it lightly with a small rubber mallet taking care not to crack the ceramic seal inside the pump housing.

Gary, do NOT tap lightly with a hammer. I did that and broke the ceramic seal on mu D4 7U. Just start the threads back on the shaft with the fan in place and turn with a wrench. I also use a wood dowel to adjust the tension of the belt when finished. Just keep tapping the dowel on the adjusting pulley with a hammer until one inch of play each way is on the belt.

I knew that,I mentioned to use a rubber mallet, lightly.

I have tried to remove the fan, does not seem to want to move. I noted the two screw holes in fan. Something I’ve taken apart had something like that to put screws in and use to back off, most likely a hay baler. I will try that tomorrow. Our area is under a tornado watch. Well if I break the ceramic seal, what is the bad news? Thanks again for help.

Just know that there is a keyway on the shaft so it might need to be pulled.

Yes you can use the two bolt holes to pull the fan hub, just use a flat plate with the two holes in it.
Also check the pump housing grease fitting, it should be on the lower right side and a 4B4550 relief fitting above it, have seen where someone has put a grease fitting in and pushes grease past the seal and fills the fan hub.

I still need help, fan does not want to come out of water pump. I used the two screw holes and made a plate to put screws through to pull on fan with no success. Does not budge. I don’t see a keeper on shaft. Something seem to have it locked up.
