Salt water is a whole different ball game and does indeed cause issues. That is a classic example of not all marine solutions being superior and unless you are a fool you definitely shouldn't have salt water in your cooling system.i was told that by a marine engineer maybe its when combined with salt water it attacks/wears it. you can get plain white packing that isnt graphite treated. yet dad assembled many borehole pumps with graphite grease on the connecting collars and guide buckets. yet i trust the opinion of the bloke who told me and he should know over 30yrs at sea all over the pacific ocean
