Hi, CTS.
Where LangdonStevenson is, winter is not a HYOOOOGE deal. It'z not Maine or Mount Washington in upstate 'Noo Yoik'. Most people there don't even know what a snow plow is. They DO know what raincoats are.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi, dependzic.
Sound like I had better go kick the favorite rump steak of the person who told me that it was in upper 'Noo Yoik' state and had the most changeable weather anywhere in the U.S..

(P.S. He was not from ACMOC.)

It does have the most changeable weather in the states,---perhaps he was thinking of White Face Mountain in New York State? Host of the 1980 winter olympics

Curious Mind - been away from the internet and ACMOC - never-the-less - as many posts and attempts to help with this tired Cat, figured something would have shaken loose in past amount of time. Just maybe lost interest?

Deas -- you can not count on place names (at least not in the times we are living in) - how many remember where the 1960 winter olympics were held and it is not the same name now!

State Park Campground we were staying in- one can not flush your tanks or fill you fresh water tanks - water issues for past 6 years or so with no hope in sight. There are Big issues with one certain Middle Eastern Country pumping huge amounts of water to grow alfalfa to ship "home" to feed their stock. Legislature is looking at changing the laws of foreign ownership!
Amazing to see the "tile roofs" taking over irrigated lands and many concrete lined canals in total disrepair. CATERPILLAR is very prominent - excavators, dozers, scrapers, graders - etc.
Those lands once very prominent for Cotton production probably will use way more water than the crops ever did.

yes our winters are fairly mild compared to what many places in the northern U.S get. our weather is more like California for most of the east coast. though northern australia is more like Georgia or alabama.

our local temp reach 27 deg celcius today yet this morning was a bit cool. its the end of our cyclone season they had a cat 4 cyclone on the pilbera coast last week luckily it came ashore in a remote unpopulated area.

and langdon has probably been held up by that for letter word WORK.

Hi CTS - update: the owner of the dozer is currently away traveling overseas, so I'm waiting for their return to be able to get up there and have another go.

I have another development though. I may be just about to purchase a heavy lift tilt tray with a BIG winch on it. That truck would be able to get up the hill to the dozer and then haul it onto the tray for return to my home location for easier access and repair. I expect I can get it going where it is with enough persistence but if I have the truck then it will be a much easier option.

Yes winter is on the way, but as mentioned, it's not very serious here. Heavy frost is about the worst of it and El Nino will likely mean a dry winter for us.

Hi, LangdonStevenson.
Is that tilt-tray an EIGHT-wheeler - as in it has EIGHT wheels, the rear FOUR of which are DUAL-TYRED wheels? Or, to put it another way, is it twin steer/tandem drive? If so, it might be legal for about 13 - 14 tonnes, which would cover the D6.

Last time, I had wunna them move a machine for me, it was a 15-ton Cat D5B wide gauge dozer with rippers and ROPS - and we only used that 'coz there was nowhere to turn a semi-trailer float around where we were going, up a long, steep, winding road out in the Gold Coast hinterland.

It was NOT legal for the weight, so we used a normal float to take it out to the last place where the float COULD turn around, swapped over to the tilt-tray and went most of the rest of the way with that. Even that could not get us the last 1/2 mile into that site. And some people wanted to build a home up there????????????????

Hi Deas - no the tilt tray is a three axle, 6x4. GVM is 22.5t, TARE is 10t. So max load is 12.5t. The D6 8U is at most 8t bare, plus the blade (10 foot I think) - wont be more more than 3t. So the truck has at least 1.5 tonne load margin with the D6.

So I think that it's all good. I will be double checking the rego papers though before I go ahead with the purchase.
