Todd;
Let me put in a plug for the great YouTube series PNW Hillbilly did detailing the work he has done on his D47U. Now I know that we all want to get away on quick jobs that are inexpensive but while you have it opened you may want to take a look at the flywheel clutch and the steering clutch controls. The controls for the steering clutches are attached to the transmission cover and over time the bearings get worn and rusted and it makes it harder to operate. While you have it all opened up it may be the time to do a quick fix that you will enjoy every time you operate the tractor. I am in the final stages of putting my 7U back together, Be careful it can be a slippery slope. On mine I opened it up to free up the steering clutches, now having replaced most of the bearings and seals for the steering clutches, the bevel gear, the flywheel clutch pilot bearing, and friction disc and the break bands. I am ready to finally enjoy running it. As I told my son, I am going to do this once. You or your kids may have to work on it but I don't plan on ever having to tear it down again. And yes that winch is heavy but for just the breaks it can stay on.
