Hi, tassletrader.
What type of blade do you have? Is it an angling blade, a straight blade or a toolbar blade? Posting a photo or photos would help but this sounds to me - without knowing the blade type - as if it is a straight blade or a toolbar blade with a LOTTTT of loose joints for there to be that much movement between the rams.

as ours is a manual tilt and angle adjustment. the tilt is adjusted by loosening a clamp bolt that holds a set of dog teeth in a rack and contorls the virtical pivoting of the blade then you pull pins to set the angle by the lenght of blade arm.
and yes even in normal operation the rams do move a couple of inches.

The other thing that will cause noticeable movement in the rams on those side-mounted lift systems is the oscillation of the tracks. As one track goes up over a bump and the other goes down, the rams will move in and out to compensate. That is why they are cross-linked, so that they can do that.

Hi Deas Plant,
Not sure what kind of blade I have, but here are some pictures. Note, when I first bought this dozer I noticed the blade seemed wide because the rails were not making good contact with the main frame which was causing allot of slop, so I placed the front rails on the inner most sides of mounts on the blade(see pics) which helped with the sloppiness and wear to the rails.
Your response about the oscillation of the tracks makes allot of sense on what very well may be happening in my situation, especially considering the fact that I am a very inexperienced operator and there may be more slop than I originally thought.

Hi, tasseltrader.
That appears to me to be a standard Caterpillar 4A manual angle and tilt blade but I can tell that the angling arms are bolted on the WRONG side of the pivotting attachment points where they pin to the blade. Those arms should be on the OUTSIDE of those castings so that the teeth on the castings match up with the teeth on the ends of the push arms. That is how the tilt is controlled on this type of blade.
The angle blade C-frame would not allow the blade to tilt very much due to any ram action unless your dozer trunnions on the track frames are AWFUL worn. The oscillation of the tracks will also affect the tilt of the blade slightly.
If the channels of the angling push arms seem to have a lot of clearance around the C-Frame and are allowing your blade to tilt because of it, you could try welding some wear plates to the inside of the channels to take up some of the slack.

That installation is pretty messed up. Those triangular pieces should not be welded to the "U" frame. In fact they are supposed to be sort of a toggle mechanism to control blade movement so that movement is dampened. What you have now is going to be way over reactive to cylinder movement.
