Club membership has been in steady decline for a while, especially in the USA. Membership numbers are in the low 2000s.
Growing membership numbers will be a key priority for us in 2022 and beyond.
In the Webtech committee we are doing a lot of work to increase member benefits such as......
New technical library, We welcome .pdf copies of manuals, sales leaflets etc. To add to the library, just mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will add them.
Soon we will have all back copies of the magazine digitised and available in the Members area.
The Chapters page has an interactive map showing the location of members.
We now have “rotating images” on the home page ( www.acmoc.org/ ) so we can display a range of pictures there.

We (not the webtech committee) have also reprinted the “Primer” which is a leaflet with caterpillar history inviting people to join us. This has a QR code which, when scanned by a smartphone takes you straight to the “Join us” page on the website. I appended a copy.
I have a bunch of these which I plan to take with me to all the shows I attend in the UK and leave one on the seat of each Cat machine exhibited.
I invite other members to do the same and become “ACMOC Ambassadors”. Mary will post some copies to any member willing to take up this challenge. I will get a copy of the “primer” put up on the website as well.

I’m sure there will be many more initiatives coming forward and it would be great to harness the thoughts and ideas of all members in this area. BOD members do not have a monopoly on ideas!

As a club we have little “management information”, so for example we don”t ask new members where they heard about the club (we will fix this very soon). Such information would help us direct sales and marketing efforts. Neither do we ask members who don”t renew their membership why they chose not to renew. Such information again would be very useful to us in improving membership benefits.

john, it would be a idea for overseas members to be able to print off copies of the primer leaflet instead of the the office posting them overseas as postage costs are quite high to some places. for those inclined a locked (uneditable) pdf could be provided on the website so you could download it and then go to the local office supplies or printing shop and run off some copies. it also saves the club money. i can do single sided colour copies for 15cents a page at my local officeworks store and their laser copies so a bit more durable than inkjet prints.

That is an excellent idea, thank you. I will ensure that we do that.

I am not sure what you would think of access to the library via a pay as you go system? a period of 24 hour or per view? per manual each view ? just an idea of making it easy for potential members or one off views? I realise it is most likely a massive task to arrange, it may kick along a few memberships or at least funds to the club.

For me to join it was the fact I wanted to talk to someone with knowledge or advice plus the ease to access books anytime and be able to print a page to do my job at hand and not need take out my book with dirty hands, one page to the bin after printing is a saving to my 50-60+ years old books, I am very lucky I have books to cover my D2 3J and D4 6U.

I live in the south west of Western Australia and work 200km from home so I stay there for the week of work, I log in read thru the topics on the forum try to remember what I can and check the manuals to order parts and plan my week off at home to work on my 2 machines.

Food for thought?

Cheers Jamie

The "Historical Primer" is actually on the website and available for download on the "About" page here is a direct link.

www.acmoc.org/images/files/HistoricalPrimer.pdf

We also included a QR code on the document which, when scanned by a smartphone takes you straight to the "Join us" page of the website.

Bmr, Jon rather than shame and complain in a public forum, maybe you might like to supply me with your phone number, I am willing to call you and discuss any of the issues you have and see how best we can resolve them. All the Directors are available and more than willing to hear from Members as to any problems or complaints they may have, email addresses and phone numbers are readily available.
The Club is run with one full time Administrator, and recently a temporary person to clear a store backlog for Christmas. Late 2018 staffing was cut from two to one due to the financial situation, that has now been stabilized and the BoD is trying to grow the balance sheet. The deficit is due to bringing to account the model molds and depreciating them, this had not been done in the past, our accounting systems are now operating correctly. It is unfortunate that the Membership did not show as much interest in the financial operations of the Club when hundreds of thousands were being consumed in the past.

Regards, your diligent servant, Wombat (Neil Clydsdale - President)

Thanks for the explanation...a few words accompanying the financial statement would have avoided the concern. As far as past focus on financial crisis I recall commenting on negative balances and highlighting items on the financial reports many times with no response or some BS answer. Glad to hear that Sue now has us on track but it seems there is still a lack of communication regarding items in the report.
