My D2 has recently-fitted sintered bronze packs and the steering is as smooth as silk - really really nice.

Cheers,

Having trouble finding the gaskets for these areas.

1- Rubber gasket between clutch cover and transmission cover.

2- felt seal over gear box.

3- felt seal over bevel gears.

The parts book doesn’t show detail very well. Anyone have any ideas for gaskets or something to seal compartments?

I have marked in red the gasket that you will require to put it back together in the images,

you could probably use neutral cure rtv slicone for those areas although there has to be a reason why they used felt. these old things dont have gear box breathers do they? so the felt may be to allow for thermal expansion and release of that vapour pressure.

you can buy felt buy the roll from craft supply joints like spotlight.

smear it with grease both sides to help it seal.

another place to try is engineering and bearing suppliers.

Try some Graphite valve packing rope about 1/2" That's what we used to seal our D4 bevel gear cover with some silicone.

the case is vented. i think the seal for the transmission cover comes in a roll. pretty sure about any gasket supply can get it for you. measure the width and depth of the groove in the cover and just buy a roll. you can also call cat to get the specs. another more modern alternative would be to buy the roll of oring material that would fit the groove

As I recall years ago I got square cork from Cat. I cannot remember if it was 1/4" or 3/8" but definitely square cork, whatever fits in the channels. Are they not available from Cat any more? I am sure square cork can be sourced.

Hi Zzzopp,
I just checked with Cat and all the gaskets/seals are available from them.

If the part number is 3b882 it converts to 3b0882 as some parts guys dont know how to update them.

Regards

Daryl
