Hi folks. Need some info/advice on how to rectify the throttle on my D2 which wont shutdown when I close it. Usually just pull the compression off and that works but want to sort it out so that the throttle kills the Diesel. Is there an adjustment ? Any ideas or do I need to take the fuel pump off ?
Thanks much,
OzCat

hello ozcat ,just read the operator book for the d2 3-5j and it tells you to shut down the d2 the way you are doing it ,
quote-
move the throttle to the extreme forward position and lock the plunger in the hole in the bracket .while the engine is slowing down ,shift the compression lever to the start position .leave the the main fuel tank valve open .cover exhaust to exclude rain or snow.
hope this helps,bruce oz

Gday Bruce,
Thanks for the info. My throttle is different to the J Series and should shut-down the diesel when it is pushed full forward like my other D2 5U. The problem is during starting on compression(run), the diesel is trying to kick in and sometimes throws out the pony engagement. Should be no fuel going to the diesel till I open the throttle, so it is getting fuel/diesel when it shouldn't I figure.
Appreciate your help. Wish I had a Service manual:(
I shall take another look at it but reluctant to start tearing it apart coz I know they can be a bag of worms.
Many thanks,
Chris.

Hi, the low idle can be adjusted so that it just takes a small push to get to the no fuel or stop point. Have you been trying on the pump or in the seat? Reprint manuals are for sale. Regards Andrew

If the low idle is set too high on the U models, it takes a pretty good "snap" to shut the diesel down. You stated that the diesel tries to fire while cranking it with the pony and that's indicative of the fuel not being shut off all the way. You might try adjusting the idle before getting any deeper into the governor.

If it were a J series I could give you some ideas. Sorry, I don't know all that much about the U series yet, though I have aquired one recently. I do know that there are external adjustment screws under that alloy cap on top which serves as a lock plate for the adjustments. I'd start there.

The idle screw is the lower screw of the two there and the higher one is for the high idle.

Thanks for the help guys.
I gather you decrease the idle by winding down the screws ? And is the left screw (looking at the engine) the low idle screw ?
Shall give it a try.
Ordering a shop manual today but nothing here in Oz (Australia).
Your help is much appreciated.
Rgds,
Ozcat.
