No they didn’t. I had read that the d8 has them that way. What is the general thought on putting them to push instead of pull? Last longer?

They installed them to push because of increase in horsepower on the 2U D8's and to last longer.

I wonder if it would hurt anything then to install them pushing for better longevity then?

If you replace them with new ones and do the alignment thing. You will never have to touch them again.

What is the procedure for the alignment? I have several dial indicators. The new parts are supposed to be in today. Can’t wait to get them in and put on!

I think what happened to these was the flywheel was froze to the dirt and debris inside the flywheel housing when I picked it up. It was 19*. Had to use pry bars to break it free. But once moving started right up. I’m thinking that damaged them because the cane apart as soon as I unloaded it at home. The guy I bought it from has had it the last 17 years.

Hi Team,
as posted before on here.
Hope this helps.
I believe that the D8's were the only machines recommended to have the thermoids pushing, as said by Rome/KG above.
Scan for the D8 modification as released in a Service Newsletter :- May 25 1951.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
