Hello all. I got the D7 3T running!! I wanted to provide an update and says 'Thanks' to those who provided valuable advice, especially Andrew.

I worked on the D7 at the seller's property and followed the advice I learned here. I added some 'loose juice' down the exhaust until I was able to find the correct injector tool (1 7/8"). I was only able to get 2 injectors out, but luckily one of them was on the offending cylinder with the exhaust valve open. Two of the injectors didn't loosen correctly. The precombustion chambers loosened first and were turning with the injector still tight in the chamber. I would have had to cut the nipple off the injector to remove the injector and chamber together. I didn't have a replacement injector, so left the 2 in.

I verified there was no water in any cylinders or in the oil sump. I removed the valve covers and the rocker assembly on the offending cylinder (#3) so I could remove the push rods. I replaced the rocker assembly with the push rods removed on the stuck cylinder (to allow the compression release to function on all other cylinders).

I then pressurized the offending cylinder with hydraulic fluid from another tractor using a fitting fabricated to mount in the injector hole, just as Andrew suggested. This worked perfectly and the engine rotated free.

I used this technique after failing multiple times to rotate the engine with a bar on the flywheel gear through the timing cover.

The engine started easily when reassembled and runs beautifully. Unfortunately, with the engine running I was able to learn I have a couple more issues that will be my next challenge. The steering clutches are stuck and I have done some research on this site already about freeing them. The brake bands also need new linings.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Good news. It's always great when you can get a stuck engine running without disassembly. Hopefully the steering clutches will break lose and you wll be on your way.

Thanks for the update OLD GOLD CAT.
Congratulations on getting your tractor running.
It is always a great emotional boost if a new to you machine can be got running.
Good luck with your further repairs. Hopefully your steering clutches will break free when you start driving it around. Are the levers coming back ok. Have you found the oil filler at the rear of the fuel tank for the steering clutch booster?? Should be full pretty much to the top . Use TOU or engine oil.

I got the steering working correctly on the D7 3T and drove the tractor home right down the gravel county road. The oil level was a bit low in the hydraulic steering clutch housing, but that was not my problem.

It turns out that neither steering clutch was stuck either. The left steering clutch was misadjusted such that it was always disengaged and the left side was never driving. A simple adjustment of the left steering clutch corrected that and the machine steers normally now.

The left brake lining is almost completely gone, and I have virtually no left brake. Installing new linings should be an easy fix. It feels great to have it home and next to my own shop. I'm sure I will discover many more repairs and adjustments that it needs as I learn the machine, but at least I can work on it correctly at its new home.

Hi, Old Gold Cat.
Me, I'm just a 'pore, dumb bulldozer operator', not a 'fully clued up mechanical type', but about the last thing I would be considering to unstick a stuck engine would be towing the unit to attempt to free it up. If you can't get it to move by more 'gentle' means - like using 'loose juice', maybe 50/50 ATF and diesel fuel, and/or barring it over as Old Magnet suggested - I would suggest that it is time to at least remove the heads and find out why it is stuck before you do any more damage.

Some folks in the past have suggested dumping Pepsi in the cylinders for 24 hours and no longer. This might be fine if you have a way of getting it out again if it doesn't free the engine - like having the heads off.

If you want to have a running tractor, be sure that whatever you do doesn't cause any more damage.

Just my 0.02.



I've found that the diesel fuel/atf mixture works pretty good, but I personally add a can of pb blaster to the mix as well. I've never had it fail to break things free
