Hello OM, Would you happen to have the cat# for the Bracket used on the electric start pony option for the U model D2 and D4 tractors. I am looking for the cat# for the late series tractors with the solenoid start. The Bracket holds both the mag switch and push button starter switch. It has two holes on the top of it for the switches and one hole at the bottom to secure it to the pony motor cylinder head. Thanks for any help. Joe Giraud:)

Hello Willie, that is not the correct number for the bracket I'm Looking for. I bought part #9F1412 fron D4Dan, it is just like the old number 6B7889. It has only one hole for the starter and or mag switch. My 7U parts book covers 7U1 to 7U27569. My cousins 7U15195 has that newer bracket I'm looking for. Seems kind of strange that his 7U has the bracket yet the parts book I have does not show it. The parts book I have is form#32504. It was published in 1957. Hope you got my message on your web site that I sent you a few days ago. Have a nice day. :D

I think I have a bracket like you're looking for. It came off a 1951 D2 5U and has holes for the mag switch and starter button side by side. It bolted to the pony cylinder head. PM me if interested.

Hi Joe,
You picked a good one there:) :) ......Checked all my manuals for D2's & D4's,
including industrial engines, graders and gen sets and can not find a number for the double hole bracket. I know they exist...got one on a D4 myself but somehow it doesn't make it to the parts books:confused:  .

Joe I'll give you a little history lesson LOL . When Cat upgraded or changed some parts they didn't always change part numbers the tailseat had same part no. 90 yrs but has changed shape ant apperance many time, the levers still use the L# that was given in 1925 but have had changes the list goes on. If the old was discountinued chances are it kept useing old Parts Number on the upgrade.

Willie and Old Magnet, Thanks for the advice and parts search. Toby Nelson was kind enough to sell me the Bracket I am looking for. I was going to mount both bracket 6b7889 & 9F1412 next to each other on the pony head but, the two hole bracket is shorter and to me looks more pleasing to the eye. I know it will not be factory original for a D2/3J but, it still will be a cat set up nonetheless. Thanks again guys.:D

Replied by Old Magnet on topic Update on 9F1412 bracket
After discussing the bracket dilemma with Bill Austin this weekend he discovered that the 9F1412 bracket for the double hole is a correct number (Willy is right, D4Dan is wrong). There is no clear view of the bracket but if you check for the wires going to the switch in the 9F7908 Electric Starter Group effective with 7U5349-up you will see both the mag kill lead and the two starter PB leads.
Mystery solved.;) ;)
