The 5J wasn't built for a front pump drive like the 5U was. The front pulleys are a lot different. There's a stock connection for the 5U. I've never seen one for the 5J, and the 5J has no attachment flange on the front for the pump mount. Unlucky for us with 5J's, but not unsurmountable.

the radiator Saturday and wondered how to mount it as the material looks thin. I see in my mind something coming from underneath the casting for the radiator, going up in front of it and not attaching to the radiator housing at all.
Or building a stout shaft mount for a belt pulley to hook up like the 1938 D2-3J on Ebay has.
It is only supposed to lift the blade. Wouldn't a belt drive do that?

I have a 5J with a #44 hydraulic control on it. I'll have to see what the arrangement is.

Now that I think of it, it has the wrong radiator on it so that may be why.......they wanted to mount the #44 so they swapped the radiator for a U series to make it easier.

(comprehension dawns slowly);) So that's why that happened, duh!

I have a 5J with a professionally build front PTO adapter. It fits inside the front pulley over the manual crank teeth and uses 6 bolts to attach. It has a female square hole that adapts to a 3/4" keyed shaft to run a pump. It also has a aluminum spacer that mounts on the 5j rad using the 2 hand crank cover bolt holes. The spacer is set up for a SAE flanged pump. I will get pics when it gets light.
