OM I got over to the shop yesterday and they gave me an old book on some of the D17000 SNs so this is what it says. The tapered roller bearings were used in the 9J 5374SP to 9J5628SP and thev3S97SP to 3S1988SP and 8S5004 to 8S5736. Then the aluminum bearings were used in the 8S5882 to 8S6182 so this is all that this book carries and that,s not all that the later ones would show but that,s the only book I got from the shop as they probably have been picked over some from their assortment since I retired as I had a whole library of books to carry about everything up to nearly 1991 when I retired. After seeing the picture it kind of comes back to me that those early ones had the tapered roller bearings but it,s been well over 40 or 45 years since we would have gotten one in to rebuilt so your memory really can leave you some that far back.

Hi SJ,
Thanks for checking that out. Seems like taper roller bearings would be a good application....plenty of two cylinder compressors and engines out there set up that way.
