Thanks everyone, for the positive comments. Still have some work to do on it, but I enjoy working on it.

Thats a very nice D6 Doug! I agree on the starting engines also. I would get a set of decals from the club, they would be original. Do you have any original Cat literature for your tractor? It will show decal placement also.

That is a sharp looking D6. From the work you describe, I'm sure it runs even better than it looks.

It is sure nice to see some nice, fat rails and good grouser height. Those are getting hard to find in the 9U sizes. There is just something about a 9U with blade and winch. They are one of the best balanced, all around well matched tractors Caterpillar made. The hydraulic blade is really nice to have, too.

Good work rescuing and polishing up a diamond in the rough.

Pete.

Think I am going to have to remove the head. A lot of oil coming out of exhaust. Engine runs great, but exhaust is full of oil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably slobbering from not being worked if it has not had a good workout. A few hours under a good load and they usually clean right up. Got a 24' disc to hook up and work some land? Or?

The disk or other implement is a constant load and will really test the cooling system especially, but even just working it with the dozer should clean it up........for a while. You will want the engine to come up to operating temp, so proper operation of the thermostats is essential if doing anything much less than full capacity work.

Slobbering or wet stacking is pretty common if a diesel engine loafs along for too long. Had an irrigation pump loose prime last week and ran half a day at low rpm under no load. It looked like someone had sprayed oil on it with a garden sprayer! Never done that before and the exhaust cleaned right up when I reprimed the pump and loaded it again.

It may look like motor oil, but it is almost all diesel mixed with soot from the exhaust.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
