Replacing D6 9u fiber clutch links on dry clutch

So two of the fiber clutch links on the dry clutch went out. I have the new links and was able to get the old ones out by taking out the bolt, but now the problem is getting the new ones in. There isn't enough room to slide them over the pin and then roll them down to get the bolt in. If I had the clutch housing off it would be no problem but I'm not sure how to get them in since there isn't much room. What do I need to do to get them in without taking the top clutch housing off?

Step one for disconnecting/connecting the clutch is remove the upper housing.

I'm just trying to replace the laminated/fiber links. The man who previously owned it put two in and said that he was able to put them in through the top service hole of the clutch housing. I wasn't able to contact him again though to describe how he did it. He said it took about an hour and a half. I just don't know how he did it.

If you got the old ones out it seems you could get the new ones in.
Can you install the new ones on the pin with the bolt installed and access the two bolt mountings.

If it has been eating links you have an alignment problem.

Yeah it blew out one of the sides so I was able to easily slide them off. There looks like there would possibly be room close to the starter pin of the pony motor to put it on the pin and roll them over to where the bolt goes in. But there wasn't enough room. If there was another half inch it would probably go. I don't know if I needed to remove something else or just take the whole clutch housing off. If I was close to the dozer I'd take some pics but I'm out of town right now.

to remove the top clutch housing you have to remove the pony flywheel and the floorboards, and on some units the crossbar that holds th floorboards up. if the clutch is still attached to the tranny input shaft, which it sounds like yours is, it may be easier to remove the bottom half and do it from the underside.

We took the bolts out of the top part if the clutch housing and it gave us enough room to get the new links in. The pics are of the old links. But now the hole is about a quarter inch short to get the bolt through.

What was your source for links? Sounds like some from the land of "almost right".

Haha yeah we got them from the guy that we had bought the dozer from. We checked the part number and the new ones were the same as the old and we placed them side by by side to the old ones and they seemed to be the exact same. So something had to give as we took the old ones out. Two of them were busted up but the third one was still together. We were just replacing it since we had it apart and had new plastic ones instead of that fiber material. Once we got them in place it was like the links were all maybe an eighth of an inch or quarter inch too long.

So are the replacements all a matched set now?
Are you aware that there are alignment specs for the clutch?
