The tractor does have an original six volt generator mounted in the lower right front.
I do not have that hooked up to the battery. I use a trickle charger to charge up the battery. The battery is 12 volt.
You could make a bracket and mount an alternator. I've seen that done.
Eventually I plan to convert the 6 volt generator to 12 volt and hook it up mainly because I want to put lights back on it. The lights just need 12 volt bulbs. That's a whole other project.

I read the Mag article, nice looking Install, I want to do the same on a 20. Do you have the measurements for that ring gear ID and OD, I have a factory drawing for a 20 ring gear and a 20 flywheel sitting on the floor. Would like to see how they compare.

Chugwater, I enjoyed your article - thanks for going to the effort to write it up. Is your 6V generator belt-driven? What's the OEM number on it (not the Cat part number but Delco's, or whoever manufactured it, if not Cat)
Cheers,
Neil

Steve,
I don't have a ring gear here that I can measure. The extra one went on Dennis' tractor. I think NAPA stocks those. They will probably let you measure one at the parts counter. I have to get another one eventually. I will be happy to measure it for you when I get one. May be awhile though.
Neil,
My generator is a gear driven generator that I believe is a factory installed option. The parts book shows several. I think I have the one that was used in the system with out a battery since this tractor had lights but no electric start. I will look it over closer when I uncover the tractor and see if I see a number or manufacturer name.

I have a generator that is used with a battery. Would you be interested in trading. Yours is a Bosch and this one is a Delco-Remy. - Wally

My generator is an original 22 generator. The Delco Remy is the one that was used with the Battery. It has the 22 tooth gear on it for the 22. - Wally
