Three Chapter 9 members worked together to convert a Caterpillar Twenty Two to electric start. It turned out great.

WyoCat did the install. He did a great job including relocating the choke. The nice shop is his. The photo below shows where I typically work on stuff. Outside! LOL.

Any idea what the Starter is that's installed?
Just in case I ever decided to do install one on mine.

It's a MPA #4162S. It also crosses to a Remy 25831 or a NAPA 2460674. It's off an IH Scout with a V8.

I have used the 4162S on my tractor. WyoCat got it to fit fine.

I bought the NAPA starter for another member to try and it is the same starter. We got it to line up on his tractor yesterday. We had to change out the spacer bolts because they were hitting the starter and it would not line up.

FYI. It's not a bolt in and it will not fit the factory ring gear. You will need to machine the flywheel for a ring gear and fabricate a spacer for the starter.

Attached are some more photos of the starter conversion project for anyone who does not get the magazine. I have included a photos of both brands of starters which are identical. I have also included a photo of the fabricated spacer required to get if to fit.

The tractor photo shows the location of the starter button and the choke lever. The knob next to the fuel control is the rerouted choke lever. You can see the starter button mounted next to the battery box.

The ring gear is NAPA # 600-3035. You will need to cut a lip on to the flywheel to get the ring gear to fit.
