Thats weird. Jamie at Grace Track (gracetrackservice.com) gave me a price on two new 40 link D6 dry chains. and sprocket rims. I told him they were for an old 9U. He also said I could convert to D5 chains and sprocket segments. I'm really not ready to do either. I would like to run what I have for another year. I like the looks of the punch holder- think I'll try to make one tonight. Don't expect pictures because I'm not to proud of my fabrication skills!:D

That's news to me on original pitch D6 chain. Maybe supply is different on east coast. Anybody else been able to get 6.75 in. pitch chain? Quoting may be one thing but getting is another:confused:

The push pin in the pic of the fabricated pusher is a 1-1/4 in. by 12 in. grade 8 bolt blank if that is any help.

Here's the parts break down for your sr.#.
Won't know until you get in there as to whether there are upgraded parts or not.

Also you might want to consider pulling the whole assembly by unbolting at the bull gear case flange and taking it to a Cat or other shop to get things pressed apart.

Thanks Old Magnet. I am another step closer, as I got the dozer back outside, and dropped the blade yesterday. In these parts we have to wait for nice weather ;) Now it is back in the shop and I'm ready to split the tracks and get to work. Although after taking it outside yesterday, now I have to clean the undercarriage again.

Well, I got the left side up in the air yesterday, and I got the track split. I made a punch holder like Old Magnet suggested. After a little heat with a rose bud, the master pin came out fairly easily. I will try to add some pictures soon. Tonight I am going to try and pull the front idler off so that I can get to the manual track adjusters. My next goal is to remove the adjuster bolt and nut so that I can get them freed up and moving better. I noticed that the sprocket has a good amount of slop- I don't like the looks of that. I'm not sure if its a case of bearings or slop in the hub. I do know that I can't tighten the bearings anymore with a long bar- I tried. What do you think? Any suggestions?

OM give you a good idea & at the dealer shop we had one made up from a piece of heavy wire cable welded on for a handle and it was pretty stiff but yet absorbed the shock well & you didn,t feel a thing when the punch (driver) was hit with a big 20 lb. sledge on big pins.We used a 16 lb. for most except the real big tractor pins.
