OM I agree, when I had this problem I thought the teeth were gone,AGAIN, so after I could see the teeth were ok it took a bit of looking to find this problem. It was a heads up to look for something else if need be. Mike:D

Hi MHG,
Just recently redid my clutch, even got new Cat replacement lock plates too but the lower one did not have enough meat to fold over and lock the lower pivot bolt you are referring to. Had to make my own. Definitely a fun place to get access to

Old Magnet called it right the first time. After removing the inspection cover I could see broken teeth laying in the bottom.
Now for the next step. What is the least difficult way to replace the clutch disk? By the way I have a trackson loader on it which is going to make things harder.

Ya got yourself a real project there:rolleyes:
....don't know that there is an easier way. Engine out is just as bad as cover off. I've seen some nasty torch and welding approaches but I sure wouldn't recommend that. It's loader frame off as far as I know but (thankfully) I haven't had to work on any loaders.

There isn,t an easy way to do a clutch job as it needs to be removed & depending on the year of tractor the top cover was in two pieces & at the shop we had them cut in two if they were a one piece.That cover goes from the just under the start. engine flywheel to the rear of the tractor if one piece & if two piece goes about under the front of the seat or in the vicinity. The drive coupling has to be removed between the clutch assem. & the trans. & then the clutch assem. complete has to be removed. Being an HT4 makes it a real challange as it,s tough to get leaned over to work on things in there.If the complete cover needs removing then the seat & fuel tank & whatever else on top in the way needs to be removed.

Wow! Amazing that just a partial jam on the outer edge could drive the tractor at all.
Maybe you can nurse it along and get it to a good spot.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Got to looking at the parts book (frame interference) and it's not as bad as I was thinking. Cover off would be the way to go....still a tough reach access wise. Maybe someone on the BB that has actually done a clutch job on a HT4 can add some pointers.
There doesn't seem to be any literature covering specific loader service and I get asked about this quite often. All you get is the loader parts book and the regular 7U lit. to work from.

Once you get to the flywheel take a small grinder and a wire brush and clean off the rust, grease and broken fiber teeth out of the teeth on the flywheel. Also fix any oil leaks as the oil will eventually weaken the fiber clutch disc teeth.Mike
