rjh-md,our company name was Thomas M Durkin,we were out of philly. On that job we had Mike's son working for us also.We had done alot of work for Whiting&Turner and they told my dad that the contractor assoc.of Md told them that they didn't want us back in town after that job.It was due to the way we made dirt fly.We used a company from down there somewhere that was own by one of the fellow from Nello Tear. His name was Hopper I think. They did pipe work.

I Started working for Alban in 1966 as prentice mechanic ,and left as road mechanic in 1975 to work for a local contractor .
I remember that I worked with another road mechanic that I just knew as Kenny ,may have been your brother in law The Kenny I knew left Alban while I was there. I worked out of the Baltimore store ,which was the main store and shop at that time . I did work with some of James Alban's orginal employee's The employee that had # 1 on his time card was Bill Burton ,and Abe Keener ran the lowboy at that time was # 2 My time with Alban tractor will always hold good memories for me ,and all of the people that I worked with then are gone ,and a new generation is at work now

rjh-md,
My brother -in-law wasn't a mechanic. He was in charge of sending the field mechanics out to jobs in the field. catskinner

Hi , Catskinner, I don't remember a Kenny ,as boss when I worked there. I had Chuck Spath as my last field director and boss .Your Kenny may have taken Chucks place after I was gone or maybe Kenny worked out of the Frederick store. I never had much contact with the people at Frederick except some of the road mechanics that I occassionally worked with on a job. A lot of yrs have passed since I was there !

Hi Bruno , happy 2014 . Browsed through my files and found pictures of a 641 "A " , probably one of the last A's . Made the pic in your country in Paris approximately 1970 .
Let us know if this is really an "A ", although no B is marked on the machine .

My father worked for C.J.L. in NJ around '61/'62 on the Spruce Run/ Round Valley projects. He was one of two belt loader operators loading belly dumps in the cuts. The Euclid S-40's loaded, flat out at night wre as ight for a ten yer old. They put out the dirt. He was a member in good standing of Local #825 I.U.O.E. for forty years. Broke-in in MA in1937 and joined the 110th Seabees in 1942...one of the units that built the runways on Eniwetok and Tinian. You learned form these men or you were gone, period.

I worked as an auto electrician in 1966. A big contractor hired me to be at the job every morning to make sure all those limit switches were behaving properly on their 657's. I was just a kid but knew my stuff. That outfit was out of Montana and digging a hole for a pumping plant on the California aqueduct. The dig was in the millions of yards. They had a dd9 pushing both ways and a circle of about 30 657's going in opposite directions at a very fast pace. What i remember most was if the operator with his 657 was not in place and ready to be pushed when the dd9 reversed directions the operator was fired. The job was done 6 months ahead of schedule. The same outfit took a job on the dirt work for caltrans going through Lancaster CA. Again finished 9 months ahead of schedule. It was amazing watching them move dirt.
