Yes Tom, I do enjoy retirement. Have been doing a lot of genealogy this year. Over the next few months will be looking for a nice single family home, most likely on the Western Slope of Colorado, in the mountains. GWH

George,
Thanks for the good pics. You wouldn't happen to have a real close up of that water tank without a engine or anything in the way do you? The MOW machine you asked what it was, looks like a Jordon Spreader only without Jordon on it. HA They usually have a cab with controls in it and a v plow on the front. The big sweep on the side will lower down so they can clean out ditches or wing snow back away from the tracks. That is what I would say it is but it's different from I usually see. catakinner upkpfan

That is the Jordan Spreader. They've used it a lot in the last few years to keep the vegetation down along the ROW. A few years ago, the Forest Service shut the RR down for a time because of the drought and fire danger. They put together a plan to clear the vegetation with the Spreader, and the fire suppression crew.
The Jordan has been prettied up since I saw it!! I sure want to see the rotary snowplows in action.
I need to go back there, soon. I can smell the coal smoke already. I think it's a tossup which is more fun: C&TSRR or the Oshkosh EAA Airventure.
