Here's some pics of a NOS Caterpillar D4 tool kit I added to my collection a while ago. Most of the tools Cat used were provided by other established tool makers, the double end wrenches are almost always Billings with the Caterpillar part number stamped on them, some of the other odd wrenches are Armstrong and Vlchek also carrying Cat numbers, the grease guns were either Lincoln or Alemite, the track grease pumps were Alemite, and some of the special parts like the fuel injection caps and the feeler gauge in this set actually just have Caterpillar on them.

Toby,
In the first photo there are two sort of "T" shaped tools in the upper right hand of the pic with what looks like pins laying next to 'em. My question is what were they used for? They look more like hood latches than anything else.

hhydro,I remember seeing this box of caps & plugs for our 7U machine, ... back in the '70s. Now I'm afraid I need to replace the head gasket and worried about getting dirt in the injectors. The probability of finding this box isn't very high. My parts manual shows some 4-caps for the injection pump 2F2989, injectors 5F2807, and 8-plugs for the lines- 2F2990 with a solid filled triangle next to the part with a footnote showing shipping & storage only. Are these the parts in the "do not open" box? Is there a part number for the full set?
I just entered these numbers on the local Cat dealer's online parts order web page. The first part doesn't show. The second is in stock at $0.50 each, the third is also in stock at $0.21 each. It seems like the first two caps ought to be interchangeable.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
