Hello friends and fellow hoarders of iron:
I am still working on a CAT #40 scraper directory. I have only managed to compile 39 of a possible 700 plus units.
If you wish to be part of the list and not bashful, send me the serial number and particulars if you would please.
On occasion, some folks need advice or parts for their unit; we can help each other. A few people feel like we have our own little clique, but to me, its all good fun. Period.
Thank you in advance, JM.
Here is an old thread from 15 years back about 40 Scrapers.

Last one around here (200 miles away) went for $4200 about 8 years ago and it was in pretty rough shape. Have not seen one since except for mine.

Hey Juice I don't know the serial number but there used to be one just west of me near Superior Nebraska around 8 or 10 years ago. Always wanted to buy it but no such luck. Farmer used it for small projects around his place and it looked to be in pretty good shape for its age. Also there was one for sale near Valentine Nebraska a few years ago on Craigslist but never heard where it ended up. Those are some neat old machines and would be pretty fun to own one I always thought.

Oh wow D4Jim, as much as I've looked at this website, I have never seen that thread. HUGE thank you, as I can compare the serial numbers with what I have already. Believe it or not, Glen Ghilotti GAVE me his 1W5111 which was one of two that he owned. Prior to me knowing him, he purchased it via Putman Auctioneering. Some intense live bidding, as a friend of mine, Angelo Danna Sr., was bidding against him. Two big hearted guys with bigger wallets fighting over it...and its a bad thing if Ang gets outbid! The neat thing was 1W5111 was originally next door to me since day one, so it came home more or less. And yes, the original owner (Joey R.) of Valley View Packing is a current ACMOC member!
Cody: You should take a sight seeing road trip! I always look for yellow iron, whether its a crawler, scraper, grader or? They are still out there, and in some very obscure places!
Much appreciated gentlemen! Thanks for sharing. JM
Oops, my bad. The Ghilotti Estate kept 1W5111; I was gifted the Valley View #1W5085. If my information is correct, 1W5144 is owned by the Legacy Center (Mr. Moyna) Elkader, Iowa; Jim Gangle's 1W5517 resides here now.
The oldest recorded 40 is owned by Joe Clint H., from Delaware: 1W5040
Latest 40 recorded is owned by Kenny D., aka AntiqueCaterpillarMan from California: 1W5771
Keep 'em coming folks! Maybe we can raise the bar for 2026 and have another large gathering of CAT 40 Scrapers! JM
