Our 'Tail Seat High tea' weekend started with a tour of the Mawsons, Pyramid Hill quarry, where Managing Director - John Mawson (Third Generation) introduced us to a early face shovel model 305, manufactured under license from Koehring Company by Commonwealth Engineering (NSW) Pty Ltd, and supplied by Noyes of Sydney which still graces the site. The quarry team had also taken time to wash and line up a range of mobile equipment sitll in use today including a 1975 920 75J3003M still earning its keep! From there we were given the rare opportunity to inspect the private storage sheds (original workshops) where the companies collection of vintage equipment and trucks resides, under the watchful eye of Bernie Mawson. Bernie and Bruce one of the original dozer drivers for the company were a delight providing background stories and information on many of the exhibits. At a second more modern site, also for storing company history the Mawsons team put an a great BBQ and once again allowed Chapter members to freely explore their growing collection. That John and his family, continue to actively collect, store and preserve their, and the districts history is to be commended. The Chapter very much thank John and the Mawsons team for opening up the collection and hosting us.
