I started working to free my severely locked up 2T engine several months ago and today I finally pursuaded the pistons to come out. Everything looks okay except for the broken top oil rings 6B2134 on cylinders 2&3. I started searching for rings and liners when I first started working on this engine anticipating this might happen and discovered that I can still purchase the new liners and seals but no rings. I've gotten lots of good tips and it seems like they might have been available pre-China Virus but not any longer. In my searches I did discover that Hastings actually made ring sets for these D4400 engines so I contacted them and they said they were discontinued long ago. I really would love to get this running again because the other internals of the engine are immaculate besides a little surface rust, All of the bearing surfaces look brand new and there is zero rust or scale in the block I can see with the 2 liners out. My thinking is that if I'm unable to find some rings laying around somewhere then I be looking to buy a whole engine/tractor that's blown up or locked up just to get the 2 oil rings I need. Any help is appreciated!

Try OTTO Gas engine works. They make piston rings for anything from 5/8" to 58 inches!

Thank BobPV15 you are a lifesaver! Literally!!
As per your suggestion I looked up OTTO Gas Engine Works and emailed him with all the information about the rings I was looking for. I just got off the phone with him, Dave is his name and he has a few of those rings! Turns out after about a 20min conversation he's got his own collection of old Caterpillar iron and sounds like a really neat guy. After talking with him I learned that if he didn't have the 7/32" oil rings I was looking for, he said you could actually use a 3/16" oil ring with a spacer instead and he's got plenty of those, so that's good to know for future fun.
Thanks again BobPV15!
I couldn't be happier!

Good to hear that He can get you what you need. I have found ring spacers in worn out engines that where rebuilt many years before, so they do work. They are usually used in the top rings where there is the most wear to salvage worn pistons.

I am glad to hear that Bob Reed is still in business. I bought pony rings from him years ago upon advice from this forum.

Or, if you can find a slightly thicker ring, Have the grooves turned out to just the right amount of clearance and you are good to go. Just my 2 cents worth. Grant.

I second Grant's recommendation to turn the ring grooves to give the new rings (and the pistons) the best chance at longevity

If you need a complete set of pistonrings I have a few sets in stock. Bought them on eBay last year. One set is for 4 pistons. Let me know if I can help you
