I posted the following note in this forum on Tuesday of last week: Desperately need a tie rod end for my 944 wheel loader. Left or right will work. old part number is 2F8609 socket assembly if you have one text or call crbearden @ 4056418547
Wednesday a fellow called and said he had tie rod ends and needed to find out what they were worth. His father had a trucking company and had 2 ea 944s and bought 4 sets of tie rod ends from a fellow in Arizona several years ago. He had them in storage with another bunch of parts left from when he sold out.
Friday called and said he had the parts would take $350 + $20 for shipping but they had sold property in CA and had to return to Hawaii, we discussed how to get payment. He had his identity stolen so only way was Walmart to Walmart, his wife uses it to send money to his daughter. He is in Pleasanton CA. Calls back and said better to use Western Union. His name is Juan Zavala. Calls two times more to tell me that the UPS did not open till 10:30am. Could he have meant Western Union. Calls again and tells me he and his wife were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station, but they had not picked up money. Crooks got one of the rent cars, his wallet and his wife’s purse that had the keys to the other rent car. He was going to call his wife’s cousin to come pick them up. He asked that I change money recipient to Jeffrey Jones because his Drivers license was gone with his wallet. Parts are in the motel room. Jeffrey Jones picked them up and he had the money and was sending the parts by UPS. Called again to tell me that the UPS store only had one cashier and they would get it sent but had to make a 6pm flight to Hawaii.
I have texted 2 times with no reply. I have checked with my UPS account and have nothing in the system from California headed to my address.

Question is: How did he get my number and need for the parts without being a member of our club.

Yes I got scammed. Why this guy took so much time to keep calling is beyond me. I should have used White pages to check on the number. I googled the number and found that a guy was trying to sell a Nash Bumper for $125 and was leaving for Hawaii the next day on the Antique Automobile Club. Same M.O.

Anyone can access the website and the forum, this is so potential members can get a flavour for what the club is about.
Non-members get to see adverts (lucky them), as an incentive to join. They can see the library index but none of the documents and not the members page either.
Rather than post your tel number or email address on here it's best to use the private messaging system to get in touch in such circumstances, at least we can then see the userid of any potential scammers and block them if necessary.
I hope this clarifies things for those who were not aware....
